-"She's on your mind isn't she?"

-"Wh-what?"- I said nervously.

-"The way you keep wandering off, the look on your face, been there. What was it? Two years? Three?"

Whoa. This girl was good, I thought I was hiding it pretty well.

-"The look on my face? So you are checking me out huh?" I said, trying to change the subject.

-"Oh, stop the sassiness"- she rolled her eyes. Those big blue eyes, hiding an ocean of thoughts. Helena was pretty, she looked so thin and fragile. But I was pretty sure she was not the sensible type of girl.

She took something from her backpack and started making a ponytail with her hair. I tried not to stare at her, but sometimes you can't deny your eyes seeing so much beauty.

-"Do you know where I should go? It's so not cool being new" She said, her hands still busy with the ponytail.

-"Well, what grade are you in?"

-"I'm in my Sophomore year, how about you? You look like a freshman"

-"Well, I don't know-wait, what? Freshman? Do I look that young and hopeless?"

She laughed. -"I'm kidding. Stop being such a sissy."

"Hey, you don't... I don't... Ugh just, shut up"

She looked at me in the eyes, "Man, you need to work on your comebacks"

"You need to work on your attitude."

"Fine. Let's make a deal here"- she said finishing her ponytail-" I help you with your sissy, LA attitude, and you help me with my sassy, Norwegian attitude."

"Oh, so that explains the weird accent"- I started saying -"Okay, it's a deal. Tomorrow, 8pm at my place"

"Whoa"- she grinned -"Hold it there cowboy. I'm not that easy"

-"At least I tried" I said disappointed. "Tell me something, do all Norwegians have this attitude?"

"Nah. There are a lot of stupid emotional girls and sissies, like you" I tried to ignore that last part.

-"But you could totally play an American girl role. Except for, you know, your accent."

"What about my accent?"-she looked hurt, I didn't know why-"Is it my English that bad?"

"No, no, no. That's not what I meant. Your accent is awesome, I don't think someone could-"

She interrupted me, "Don't try fix it white boy. I would love to hear you trying to talk in Norwegian."

"Oh yes!"- I said a bit too excited -"You can teach me some Norwegian nasty words and that way no one will know what I meant"

"I don't think that's the purpose for learning a new language" she said in between laughs.

"Oh come on, how do you say... Buttcrack in Norwegian?"

"Uhm"-she put a finger on her mouth-"I think it would be rumpesprekk"

"Awesome"-I said- I'm gonna call everyone a rumpesprekk now, and when they ask me what it means I'll be like, 'you know, it means I love you in Norwegian' and no one will never know. "

Helena laughed hard, some guys a couple of seats in front of us even turned and looked at her but she didn't care, she kept laughing.

The bus came to a stop, we'd finally arrived to school.

Helena said "You seem like a nice guy John"

-"You seem like a sassy European girl Helena"- I replied

"I am a sassy European girl"

"I know. I like that"

She blushed and tried to hide it. She got up from her sit, her ponytail looking way too damn good.
"What a shame I'm not into nice guys"-she said and started walking away.

-"Good thing I am not one"-I said with a smile on my face. She turned and gave me an awfully gorgeous smile and a sexy wink.

I grabbed my stuff and started walking out of the bus and into the school. I lost Helena in the crowd of students, not that I was looking for her or anything. So far, she turned up to be an awesome gal. She would make a good girlfr- No. I started thinking. You can't do this to yourself. Not to her. You just broke up with Lois. Don't be such a desperate John, come one, you are better than this.

-"JOHN JOHN JOHN JONATHAN"- I knew that voice, it was Mike, one of my classmates. Mike was the kind of guy who always had something to say. Tall, anorexic-thin (although he ate like a goddamn cow). He always looked as if he'd ran a mile, a constant tinge of pink under his tawny skin.

-"Hey Mike, long time no see, how are you?"

-"Pretty good actually, feeling pumped. I got myself a girlfriend on the Summer which is nice."

-"You did?"- I said in an exciting voice-"what's her name?"

-"Margaret, remember her? She goes to this same school."

-"Yeah, I remember her. She has been your crush for what? Two years now? I feel so happy for you two."

-"Yes, but don't tell her that, she doesn't know we are dating. Yet" He smiled. Then, someone in the crowd yelled his name and without saying goodbye, he was gone.

I started walking to the gym, it seemed like my best bet to find my friends since all the school got together at the gym for some announcements the Principal made. People passed by and said hi, I said hi back even though i didn't really know them. Then, I heard a laugh. A laugh I knew pretty well, a laugh I'd come to love the last three months. It was one of those laughs you could here from miles away because it was so loud and annoying for most people.

But it was a laugh I'd missed, and it brought a warm fuzzy feeling through my body and a smile. I turned, and there she was. Beautiful, young Lois. The smile quickly faded when I saw the guy talking with her.
