bliss » noun ⇢ perfect happiness; great joy.

The night of the ball was finally here, and Lane couldn't be more excited. Ginny and the other girls came to her room early in the evening to get ready together – thankfully no one seemed to be scolding students for going from dorm to dorm to be able to get primed with their friends. She was sat on her bed as Ginny tried to do some eyeshadow on her when Rosie gasped making them both quickly look over. Lane hoped to herself the sudden movement didn't make Ginny mess up.

"What? Is everything okay?" Ginny quickly asked as she frantically looked around.

Rosie pointed at Luna with her dress on and covered her mouth. "Oh, Luna you look beautiful!" She cooed.

The dress was a gorgeous silver color that looked like it shone against the paleness of Luna's skin. It had intricate swirls all around it and complimented her body perfectly while also making her look comfortable and reflecting her personality. She was absolutely radiant.

"Thank you very much, Rosie." Luna smiled and walked over as she brushed her long locks.

She sat on the edge of her bed and watched the other girls contently. Rosie was trying to get herself into her cardin green dress. Unbeknownst to the girls (besides Luna), they'd all picked a dress that represented their house. Rosie looked stunning. Her soft light brown hair was curled and rested just above her shoulders. Her lips the same shade of Persian plums and her eyelids dusted gold to tie the whole look together. It was honestly a waste for her to be going with someone like Gregory Goyle when she looked this amazing.

"Luna, can you help me?" She whined as she couldn't reach the zip at the back.

Luna zipped her up as Ginny turned back to Lane and scowled. "Stop moving or else you'll look like me after taking a bad bludger."

Lane couldn't help but grimace at the memory -- Ginny had been almost unrecognizable had it not been for the fiery red hair atop her head. Not wanting to look a mess, Lane sat still and let Ginny do the final touches no matter how hard it was for her not to fidget. Her eyelids were stamped with a soft bronze color and her mascara made her lashes long and feathery. Ginny didn't go overboard with the makeup for Lane because she knew it wasn't really her style and the older girl couldn't help but be thankful her best friend knew her so well. They got into their dresses and all smiled at each other.

"We look like dolls," Luna said as they stared in the mirror.

They all giggled. Luna had opted to have her hair in a half up-do whereas Ginny and Rosie had their hair down. Lane wasn't sure which would look best on her, but she finally settled on an elegant bun with braids Ginny had woven through for her.

"Having 6 older brothers means when they grow their hair out it's like a dummy to practice on." She joked when Rosie questioned how she was so good.

All the girls laugh as they walked from the Ravenclaw common room towards the Great Hall. Students from all houses and schools were gathered around and chatting happily. As they walked down the final steps of the grand staircase, Ginny caught Neville's eye and Lane could have sworn she saw the boy visibly gulp. He quickly scurried over to her and offered her a corsage of beautiful white carnations -- she heard him mention he made it himself which made her smile fondly at him. He really did love his plants. Rosie had slipped off with a wave and gone to find Goyle amongst the crowd which left Luna and Lane standing on the steps awkwardly.

"I'm sure George will think you look gorgeous." The blonde reassured. "He likes you after all."

Lane felt her eyes go wide and her mouth go dry as she looked at Luna like she had seven heads.

"What? No, he doesn't." She laughed awkwardly. "I'm just some 3rd year he had to take to the ball because his sister said so..."

"But you like him." Luna frowned, not quite understanding the weight of what she was saying.

Lane truly thought she did a good job at hiding her feelings for George, and to have Luna read her like a book had her second-guessing her acting abilities.

"And I've seen the way he smiles at you when you aren't looking-" She continued before a dainty voice spoke behind them. "Luna."

It was the Beauxbatons girl who had asked Luna to the ball. She looked showstopping (of course) as she offered her hand to Luna. The younger girl took it happily and waved to Lane as her date lead her to the Great Hall leaving her alone on the steps. The groups of students were being ushered inside by Professor McGonagall to prepare the Triwizard champions for their grand entrance. For a moment, Lane wondered if George had stood her up. That was until the ginger in question came running over with a big grin on his face. His hair was long and neatly done and his dressing robes were immaculate compared to his normally shabby clothes.

"Sorry sorry!" He panted as he came over.

He gently took her hand and smiled presenting her with a white gardenia on a corsage. He slipped it on her wrist and she noticed he had a matching one tucked into his jacket -- along with his tie matching the sapphire color of her flowy dress. Her dress hung off her shoulders and flowed to the ground in a way that resembled waves lapping at the rocks off the coast of Shell Cottage -- a place he was familiar with while growing up. They looked staggering together and even Professor McGonagall had to do a double taken when she saw them.

"In you get." She said as she pushed them towards the Great Hall with the rest of the students. "And Miss Mallard." She called as they walked away making the duo stop and turn around.

"You look marvelous." She smiled softly. "You too Mister Weasley."

George winked and placed his hand on the small of Lane's back as he led her inside. The Great Hall looked so different than it normally did. Soft snow flurried down from the ceiling but never reached them. Tables decorated in white cloths lined the hall and a sparkling dancefloor was in the center of it all. Everything about it screamed elegance and class and Lane found herself mesmerized by it all as she looked around. That was until the music started playing and the champions made their way into the hall with their dates on their arms. George made a face at Harry as he walked by making the younger boy bite his lip to hold in his laughter. They began dancing with their partners when Lane felt George lean down from behind her to whisper in her ear.

"Don't tell McGonagall," he began in a hushed voice distracting her from the dancing, "but she was right. You do look marvelous."

Lane blushed all the way to her ears and turned slightly to smile up at him -- because of his height, he stood behind her so she could watch the dancing without him in her way.

"And you look breathtaking." She said with a bit more confidence than usual.

He rewarded her compliment with a huge goofy grin and wink as they turned back to watch the dance finish. Soon it was everyone else's turn to show off their dancing.
