I woke up to my name being yelled. I checked my phone and it's 2 A.M. I heard my name being yelled again, so I ran into Memphis' room on instinct, knowing it was one of her night terrors. I was only in my underwear but I don't care because this is more important.
I opened her door to see Memphis sitting in the middle of her bed, crying. I immediately go towards her and get in the bed. I hug her and just let her cry while I rub her back. About 5 minutes later she is calm enough to speak. "What was it this time Lizzy Bear?" I asked.
The nickname Lizzy bear actually came up after one of these nightmares. She had a horrible nightmare when we were like 12 and she called me. She said she wished she was a bear so that nothing could scare her. Elizabeth is her middle name and it sounded better to call her Lizzy bear than just bear.
"Somebody broke in and kidnapped me. After they got me, you tried to save me but they killed you." She cried out. "SSH it's ok Lizzy bear I'm here. I'm not dead. You're not kidnapped. Everything is ok." I soothed her.
We stayed like that for about 5 more minutes until she spoke up, "Mikey can you sleep in here tonight?" "Of course I can." I said. "Can you go put on clothes first?" She asked and giggled. I rolled my eyes realizing I was still in my underwear.
"You're the only person I would comfort half naked." I said with a small laugh, she laughed too. I went to my room and put on some shorts and a hoodie then ran to her room. I got in the bed and held my arm out. She layed her head on my chest and I twisted her hair, knowing that helped her sleep after a nightmare.
After she fell asleep, I went to sleep too. I didn't want to go to sleep until she was so she wouldn't be awake alone.
I woke up again a few hours later. She was still sleeping. I picked up her phone to check the time. It read 10 A.M. I put her phone down and got out of bed. We had work to do today before school tomorrow. "Memphis." I said as I shook her. "Hm?" She said trying to pull the blanket over her face.
"It's 10. We need to start working." I said. She just nodded. I left her room, knowing it takes her a few minutes to fully wake up.
I went to my room and threw on some shorts and a long sleeve PFG shirt. I put on my Columbia hat backwards since I always wear hats. After I was finished getting ready, I went to the kitchen to drink some water. I always chug a bottle of water every morning to help me wake up.
Memphis came in the kitchen looking like absolute garbage. "You look like crap." I said with a laugh. She flipped me off and said "frick you" I laughed because she doesn't cuss. She hates cussing. It's one of her biggest pet peeves. So I try not to do it around her, it just slips though sometimes.
She began making her coffee cause lord knows she can't function without caffeine. "Can you toss me a water?" She asked. I nodded and grabbed a bottle off the counter and tossed it to her. She started drinking it.
"What all do we need to get done?" She asked. I leaned against the counter, "well, we need to finish unpacking our things then go get groceries with the card mom gave me, then we need to make sure everything else is done."
She nodded as she stirred in the pumpkin flavored creamer. I swear Memphis is the definition of a basic white girl when it comes to fall. She loves anything pumpkin flavored, pretty sweaters, and bon fires. Hopefully we can find a bon fire soon.
After she had her coffee and I finished my water, we began working.
