Hey, my name is Alexandra. People call me Alex. Anyway, well, I was walking around, and saw a poster that said, "Slave Auction, February 6, 1968." (I live in the South by the way.)
Okay, let me cut you off for a second. I'm going to tell you about me for a sec. so that you understand this story a little bit better. I'm homeschooled, so I don't know much about Ancient Civilization. My friend told me that they learn about slavery in Ancient Civilization. So I was wondering what it was like, but my friend didn't tell me what it was like because it is too brutal.
So let's start again. So the slave auction was placed at the County Shaw Farm. I knew where that was! So I went back home, and told my parents, "Mama! Papa! I really wanna learn 'bout slavery in Ancient Civilization!"
"What made ya think of that?" My papa asked.
"Well, when I was walk'n around by the 'Old Shack,' (which was a little old market place) I saw this poster hang'n, and it said, '"Slave Auction, February 6, 1968, Placed at the County Shaw Farm."' I really wanna see the auction! So I wanna learn about Ancient Civilization, so that I can see what it's like! It only takes a little while to learn about slavery. Plus, the slave auction is only in a month!" I yelled.
"But sweets," my mama said, "it's too brutal!"
"But that's what Bianca said!" I screamed.
Finally, my mama said, "We'll talk about it tomorrow. Now go to bed! I will see ya in the morn'n."
The next day, I purposely got up late in the morning because I knew that my mama was going to talk to me when I woke up. I quietly got off of my bed, and carefully walked down the two steps into the living room.
I saw my mama in the kitchen, drinking black coffee, crying, and praising to the Lord.
"Oh, Lord, I know that my beautiful girl wants ta learn about slavery, but I can't let that happen! She needs to know 'bout her father. But I just don't know how to tell her! But I somehow have to. Please help me Lord, please. Amen."
"Hey mama." I said.
"Hey sweets." She responded. "Ya weren't listen'n ta anything, were ya?" She asked.
"No mama, I just came down here, why do ya ask?"
"Oh, no reas'n."
"Okay."
My mama stopped to think for a second, and stared right at me.
"Never mind." She said.
"Never mind what?" I asked.
"Just... never mind."
Later on in the day, I got to call Bianca.
