I walked into my apartment. I heard nothing. I went to my mother's bedroom.
"Mom?" I called. I knocked on the door. There was no reply. I opened the door. My mom's room was empty. I saw her ring. She never left home without her ring. I realized she must have been taken.
The thought made me dizzy. I staggered. Black spots danced across my vision. I fell to the ground with a loud thud. Annabeth must have heard me because she came running in. I heard her scream my name as my vision darkened. She started crying and I heard the rest of my friends running into my apartment. Then I saw nothing. I passed out.
I woke up. I looked up to see my friends standing over me. Annabeth's face lit up. Her eyes were red and her shirt stained with tears. I looked at my friends.
"Sorry," I apologized. "I didn't mean to startle or scare you. The thought of..." My voice trailed off.
They looked at me expecting me to finish.
"What's wrong, Percy?" Wise Girl asked.
"Well.. My mom... She's missing."
