I couldn't let this happen. This was all wrong, the scene in front of me, I knew if I didn't stop it, it would haunt me for weeks, months and maybe years. Without thinking anything I dropped my backpack on the ground and dashed towards the group of men who were about to disrobe the girl.

"Stop it" I yelled as I held my jacket for the girl which she accepted and covered herself quickly.

"Madam Ji this is our tradition and you don't get in between it" Ramlal said.

"Tradition" I repeated, "This is not any tradition this is a crime that you people are committing and I don't know for how long you have committed it but I won't let you do anything to this girl"

"This was this girl's destiny was and you can't change it" Sarpanch said, "And we are not like you city people who had forgotten their traditions and value. You can't stop us and be thankful that we haven't done anything to you yet" he said with rage in his eyes. These people were quite dangerous they were armed and I had to do something before they used it on me.

"This is not her destiny" I argued as I moved towards my bag with the girl close behind me, "You guys can be punished for this under law, and I will get you all inside the jail one day" I said trying to buys myself some time so that we could position ourselves just in front of the village gate. It was almost seven in the evening which was he right time.

"Madam Ji we respect you but that does not mean that you can intervene in our matter" Raghav yelled as he came out his shop.

"Fine" I left the girl's hand and picked up my backpack and strapped it on myself firmly I quickly picked up an air rifle from the near by shop and pointed it towards them. I knew despite being armed they would not fire any bullet because they were in front of Bhavani Mandir, odds were on my side. I fired on bullet aimed at Raghav's feet which made everyone jump in their place, I signaled the girl to run towards the village gate.

"No one comes near me" I threatened them, "I don't believe in your Bhavani Mandir tradition so I can easily kill anyone of you" I said as I moved towards the main gate my eyes not leaving them even once, "Run" I yelled at the girl and ran behind her as I heard every villager running behind us and screaming.

Only few seconds were left before the temple's bell to ring and precisely at that moment it did and I knew that the girl and I were free we ran and ran and there was no one coming behind us. But still we did not stop unless we knew that we had left the village far behind.

"Thank you didi you saved me" she said as we both caught our breath and I hugged her.

Only if I would have know at that time that saving her would cost me my life.
