Daydreaming.
A beautiful thing. You can go anywhere you want and see whatever you want. You could even do whatever you want without any of the nasty consequences. Filling out your every desire. Whether it's to become a princess, to become a superhero, or even a time traveler, it's always going to be more interesting than the last. As ideas appear in your head, stories expand and your tiny created worlds become richer with history and culture.
Sighing, you sat in your seat and took a notebook out of your backpack. Effectively throwing it onto your desk and plopping down in your chair.
Slumped over the notebook and pencil in hand, waiting for class to begin, the scene around you began to change as you slipped into your thoughts.
A forest.
A door.
A key.
It wasn't originally something you had thought up on your own, rather it was a dream that came to you a few nights before.
Stood in the middle of a small clearing inside of an oak forest, you stared at a door.
The door was attached to an oak tree whose branches twisted in all directions and had an exterior of rough, moss covered bark, illuminated by the golden light that shined through the small cracks on the door.
The door itself was smooth with the occasional splinter. Light escaped from behind the door near its rugged edges. You ran your hand across the frame, feeling the intricate designs of unrecognizable symbols that glowed a slight blue, different from the golden hue from behind the door.
Echoes of whispers filled the air. The whispers overlapped, making it difficult to understand. Though one whisper remained louder than the rest.
"(Y/n)."
Your eyes stay on the door as you're unable to look away.
"Remember."
The whispers became louder.
"You need to remember."
The whispers slowly formed into a single voice as it lowered slightly in pitch.
"It's his fault."
Your brow furrowed slightly, confused.
"You could be traveling. Going till the ends of your imagination. We could be seeing the most fantastic worlds."
The voice.
A woman's voice echoed through the air.
"Open the door young one."
Your hand hovered towards the door knob. In the door knob, a key.
It was black in color and slightly rusted. But the one thing that stood out from the key was the name that was engraved upon it in beautiful cursive.
(Y/n) (L/n).
THUD.
"Sorry I'm late Sir!" A cracked voice interrupted the class.
You flinched at the sudden change of scenery and sound, dropping the pencil on the floor beside you.
Karl Jacobs.
An eccentric student known for his unusual quirkiness. He'd often arrive to class late, usually out of breath with a disheveled uniform, and was always the first to leave.
The teacher turns to him as the class grows quiet leaving only whispers and silent giggles to be heard.
He sighs and rubbed his temples. "Karl. You're actually early today. I appreciate the apology but class doesn't start for a few minutes so please go find your seat and wait patiently." He directs his attention towards the class. "Go ahead and continue what you were doing. I still have a few things to set up."
Karl nodded and found his seat near the back of the classroom.
You watch as he sits in in his seat before clumsily taking his bag off, placing it on the ground near him, and taking out a notebook, a pencil, and a small journal titled, Tales from the SMP.
It was a leather journal, a leather strap kept it close. The words, 'Tales from the SMP', were burned on the front and as he opened the journal, the pages were slightly yellowed. You could only guess it was a stain from some liquid, most likely water.
But what caught your eye was the key which was attached to the strap of the journal.
The key was black and slightly rusted. It hung by the bow and was attached to the strap of the journal.
You squinted slightly.
You couldn't keep your eyes off the key.
It looked exactly like the one in your dream. You weren't sure if your name was on it, but it seemed too similar.
You shook your head.
You shook your head, not enough to grab attention.
It's just a key, it doesn't mean anything. It's a coincidence.
Even after he put the journal away, you couldn't get the key off of your mind.
Why? It's just a stupid vintage key. Anyone could buy one nowadays.
Your pencil tapped against your notebook.
"-n). (Y/n). Miss (L/n)." You jerked up in your seat as your vision came back into focus.
"Yes?"
Your eyes were settled on Karl as he gave you an awkward smile and a small wave.
"(Y/n). Can you answer the question?" Your teacher asked never looking up from the question within his open textbook.
Karl mouthed a few words that you were lucky enough to understand.
Your eyes drifted over to your teacher. "The multiverse."
Your teacher smiled and looked up from his book. "Correct! There are multiple theories on why the multiverse is possible. The multiverse is the idea that there are multiple universes that exist. The most popular being the idea of alternate realities existing or in other words, a parallel universe. You see these types of ideas being portrayed in the media all the time. You'll see it in movies-"
Sighing, you wrote down your notes only to take a glance back to Karl who stared at you. Seeing you look back, he looked back down to the key on his desk, only scrunching his brows in confusion then shaking it off as if it was nothing.
You looked back up to your teacher and then back down to your notes.
You couldn't get that key out of your head.
