Megan
Today was the first day of Junior year and I was really excited to see all of my friends. I've lived in Texas for majority of my childhood and it's literally my home. I live with my mother and my father is in Jail. It's been really rough on me since he's been gone but my mother tries her best to get my mind off of it.

"Megan! Hunny get up for school so you're not late!" My mom yelled from downstairs. I groaned before sitting up. Mom has a tendency to wake me up too early. I don't have to be to school until seven and right now it's only five thirty. She always told me that getting up earlier would help me fully wake up so that I won't slack off in class.

I walked to my closet to pick out my outfit before laying it on my bed. I then went and hopped in the shower. After I was done, I got dressed before going down to greet my mother.

"Goodmorning mommy." I said giving her a kiss on the cheek. She smiled sitting my plate down on the table.

"Good morning baby. How was your night?" She asked. I shrugged eating a bite of my food.

"It was alright. Nothing new." I said. She rested her hand on my shoulder and sighed.

"I know that it's been rough without your father around; but we can still make the best of it." She said.

"Ma, without dad there's no point in doing anything. Don't you understand that?" I asked looking at her.

"I do understand, but we have to learn how to let go and move on." I looked at her and scrunched up my face.

"Move on? I wouldn't dare forget about my dad, and you shouldn't either. Dad set the foundation in this house. Dad listened to me when I needed him the most. Dad......dad cared about me." I said wiping a tear that fell.

"Baby, your father is away right now. We can't sit and wait on him. You know that he wants us to live our lives. Didn't he tell you that over the phone?"

"He did say that he wants us to live our lives; but he also said don't forget about him, and I'm never going to stop talking about my dad." I said.

She kissed me on my head and sighed. "You're so head strong. Just like your father. I just want you to be happy baby girl."

"If my dad isn't here, then I can't be." I said standing up and grabbing my things. I walked out the door and wiped my tears.

"Meg! Ova here girl!" I looked over as I walked into the school. I felt a lot better when I saw my friends.

"What's up girl! Long time no see." My friend Destiny asked.

"Yea how you been?" Miracle asked.

"I've been making it. You know mom has been with me every step of the way." I said.

"That's good! I thought you weren't going to come back on some real shit." Johnathan said.

"Why would I leave y'all hangin? You know it's all love over here." I said pulling them into a group hug.

"Yea we love you too girl you know that."

The bell had rung signaling us that we should get to class. We all went our separate ways besides me and Johnathan because we had first period together.

"Yo wassup Meg? Long time no see! I see you still fine and shit." This boy named Torey said.

"Nigga back up. All up in my face." I said scrunching up my face and brushing past him.

"She don't want yo short ass no way." Johnathan said.

"Nigga shut up with yo gay ass!" Torey snapped.
