Part Thirty-Two

Jay’s POV

“Oh hi” I say, as I open the front door and see Nathan and Siva standing in front of me.

“Hey mate. Would you look after Siva for me? He’s a bit drunk and I don’t want to take him home because let’s just say, he doesn’t sound like he’s on the best terms with Claire right now and I’m supposed to be shopping with Lu and Renee” Nathan explains, to which I roll my eyes. I swear he just treats this place like some kind of free bed and breakfast, these days. First he drops Rheanna and Leo off here and now Siva.

“I can’t have him here” I tell him, as I remember what happened earlier.

“Come on, please. He’s a mate after all” Nathan says, almost pleading with me to take Seev off his hands.

“I can’t. He’s been scaring Leo” I tell him.

“Well what about if I sit with him for a bit, make sure that he gets settled” Nathan says.

“Fine” I give in. I can’t really push Siva out onto the streets now can I?

“Thanks” Nathan says, as he taps my shoulder and then walks into the house, with Siva trailing behind him. I give him a stern look, as I close the door and then I head into the living room with the others.

“Tea?” I ask them.

“Yeah alright then” Nathan says and then looks at Siva, who doesn’t seem to be saying much.

“Siva?” I ask.

“Yeah” he says, in a weird tone, which I assume is his answer. I walk off into the kitchen, where Rheanna and Leo are sitting. She’s teaching him how to write the alphabet, which I think is quite cute. I suppose he’s had quite a lot of stuff going on, which seems to have slowed his education down.

“Who was it?” Rheanna asks, as she stares at Leo’s hand, which is flowing across the paper.

“Nathan and Siva” I tell her and she quickly looks up at me. I don’t quite know which one she’s most worried about being her. It could be either of them.

“Yeah Nath’s basically pressured me into looking after Siva” I sigh and her face turns to one of worry. “It’s alright though. I’ll keep him out of your way” I tell her, as I place a comforting hand onto her shoulder.

“Thanks” she smiles, as she looks back down at what Leo is doing. I soon finish making the tea, where I put one next to Rheanna and I quickly get Leo some juice from the fridge. I place that next to him, before picking up the tree mugs that are left on the counter and make my way into the living room. “Thanks” Rheanna says after me, which makes me smile.

I kick the kitchen door closed behind me, so Leo won’t need to see Siva again. I place the mugs down on the coffee table, before joining the others on the sofa.

“Thanks” Nathan says, as he picks up his mug and begins to sip his tea.

“Cheers Jaybo” Siva says, in a chirpier mood, as he picks up his mug too. Me and Nathan look at each other with a puzzled look. He’s never called me that before, usually if anyone is going to call me a nickname, its JayBird, or I suppose Jay is a nickname in itself, but Jaybo is just weird. What has gotten into him?

“It’s alright” I say, trying not to laugh at him.

“So how are you getting on with Rheanna and Leo living here?” Nathan asks me.

“It’s actually been ok. Of course it was awkward to begin with, but now it’s all changed. It’s like we’re friends. She’s really nice, you know?” I tell him, with a slight giggle, as I remember some of the things she’s done or said. I never thought I would call Rheanna a friend.

“I thought you hated her for what she did to me” Nathan asks, raising an eyebrow.

“Well yeah, I did, but that was before I got to know her again. Back then I thought all sorts of bad things of her, but now I realise that it wasn’t her fault. She just wanted what was best for her son. She didn’t mean to hurt you Nathan” I tell him, but his eyebrow remains in place.

“I think you have a crush on her” Siva butts in.

“No I don’t” I say, defensively.

“He does” he says, as he nudges Nathan, causing them both to start laughing.

“Why would I have a crush on her? We’re just friends” I tell them, but they don’t seem convinced.

“Don’t worry if you do. It’s not like I haven’t been there” Nathan smirks, which just makes me even more annoyed.

“What are we twelve? I’m a grown man for god’s sake, surly I’m allowed a friend that’s a girl without you all assuming that I fancy her” I say, in the hope that they would back down.

“Aww look at him. He’s blushing” Siva jokes.

“Seriously guys, you’re really starting to bug me now. Can you just cut it out” I plead with them.

“Are you scared she might hear or something?” Nathan laughs.

“Do you want me to ask her out for you?” Siva says, in a fit of laughter.

“Obviously not, because I don’t like her and even if I did, I wouldn’t need you to ask her out for me. ok?” I say.

“He’s scared of being rejected” Siva laughs, as he nudges Nathan’s arm.

“No, I’m not” I say, getting even more annoyed.

“Don’t worry, if she says no, we can tell her it was a dare” Siva says, whilst winking.

“Just piss off alright!” I say and at that moment the kitchen door opens and Rheanna walks in.

“Where are you going?” I ask her. “I thought you were going to stay in there with Leo?”

“Am I not allowed to go to the toilet now?” she laughs. “What’s so funny?” she asks, as she notices Nathan and Siva still laughing.

“Jay fancies you” Siva laughs, sometimes I hate that guy.

“No I don’t” I say, quickly.

“Bloody hell, how old are you supposed to be? Next you’ll be going to the shop on your bikes and stealing sweets” she says. I’m surprised that she laughed it off so quickly. She soon leaves and I can’t help but notice the change of atmosphere. Siva is still laughing to himself, but Nathan isn’t. He looks really awkward.

“I’ve got to go then, guys. I’ll see you later” he says, as he stands up and makes his way to the door.

“Liar. You’re going to stalk Rheanna aren’t you? That ship has sailed remember Nathan?” Siva laughs, but Nathan doesn’t look amused. What has gotten into Siva today?

“What?” Nathan asks in a threatening tone.

“Nothing” Siva says, quickly.

“Yeah, that’s right. It better be nothing too. Me and Rheanna was a long time ago and there is no way I would risk Renee for that again” he says, and with that he disappears. I hear the front door slam, which tells us that tells us that Nathan has left.
