I woke up the next morning with the sun shining into my face again. I should really buy some curtains, I thought as I sat up and stretched. On my nightstand I found a slip of parchment with a cookie placed on top of it. I take a bite of the cookie as I read the note.

"Y/n," it read. "You fell asleep before you could eat this, so I saved it for you. xx Luna"

I catch myself smiling as I read the small, loopy letters on the page. No, we're not doing this again, I thought to myself as I shook my head and stuffed the note in my pocket. Nobody knew about that part of me, not even my sister. I wasn't sure if I would ever be ready to tell anyone. I forced my feelings down into a tiny, dark corner of my mind and locked them away where they wouldn't be seen, just as I had done for years. I've seen in the muggle news how people like me are treated, and I was terrified of facing the same fate.

She probably doesn't feel the same way anyway, I told myself as I got ready for breakfast. She was just being nice to you, she was being a good friend. You've only known each other for two days. I tied my hair back again and Evie finally woke up. She didn't say anything to me, she just grabbed her robes and marched into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her.

"Are you taking over the bathroom again?" I ask through the door. "Didn't you impress the boys enough yesterday?" And, just like yesterday, she opened the door and let me in. I noticed the bright pink lipstick she was putting on.

"You're nosey, you know that?" Evie grumbled. I cross my arms and study her face. She notices me staring at her and stops putting her makeup on.

"What are you gawking at?" she snapped, pushing past me. I was suddenly aware that she was wearing perfume, and lots of it. She reeked.

"What in Merlin's name are you wearing so much perfume for?" I demanded, gagging. She glared at me.

"Because I think it smells nice. Now, do you have any more questions before I practice my levicorpus on you?" I roll my eyes, still coughing.

"You wouldn't dare," I sneer. I walk over to open up the window because I was seriously getting light-headed from the perfume overload. I bend down to unlatch the window. As I'm propping it open, Evie walks by and bumps into me from behind. It was just hard enough that, for a split second, I was sure I would fall out. I caught myself on the frame and froze, too terrified to move or even breathe. I marveled at how the tops of the tallest trees seemed so tiny and far away. Evie grabbed me by the back of my robe and yanked me back inside.

"Y/n, what in the hell are you doing? Do you want to fall to your death?" she scolded. I angrily tossed her arm aside. The fire was starting to spark up again, but this time I didn't push it away. I let it spread to every inch of my body.

"No, that's what you want! You tried to push me out the window! You almost killed me, you maggot!" I shout. Evie's hand flies out and slaps me across the face. Something inside of me snapped, and I launched myself at her.

All I remember was that we were a tangle of arms and legs. Hair was pulled, fists flew, and threats and dirty words were thrown like punches. And I remember rage. Sheer, unbridled rage. Evie was screaming. Her knee slammed into my chin, making me bite down on my tongue. Blood filled my mouth, and the metallic taste of it made me gag. I clawed, kicked, bit, twisted, and struck with reckless abandon until I hear someone yelling at me.

"Y/n, stop it! What's the matter with you?" I feel a pair of arms wrap around me from behind and they drag me away from Evie. I was still thrashing furiously.

"Let me go!" I scream. I smash the back of my head into the person's face, and they finally let go of me. I turn on them, ready to let fly, but my heart stops when I see Luna pinching her nose. Her fingers were bloody and her white collar was now stained with crimson specks. Oh, no. No, no, no. A horrifying awareness came crashing down on me, the concept repeating itself in my head.
