"Adeline" my mum says looking at me with a soft smile. "You necklace is in." I smile. Today is my eighteenth birthday, and like everyone in the year 2020 the Guards send you a necklace that will help you find your true soul mate. This makes divorce unnecessary. The necklace warms and makes your body want to go where your partner is, when your far away from your partner it's cold. My dad smiles at me and hands me the small box. The necklace was simple, fun, cute and nice key. I smile and put it on.
"What does the note say?" my dad asks. I look at my parents who sit on the sofa holding hands. Their necklace was fun like my parents relationship. The necklace also is suppose to show your relationship. My dad's is a camera with a photo of France and my mothers is a locket with a photo of France.
"Adeline Grant," I start "happy eighteenth birthday! Last year you sent us in a form about yourself and your sexuality. In this form you said that you like men and you liked simple fun things. In the end we designed you this princess key. Have a nice day."
My mum smiles. "Well go get ready for school!"
"Okay." I sigh and go up to my room to get dressed. I glace out my window and see snow. I slip on skinny jeans, a tank top and the slip on a heavy, baggy sweater. I slip on a pair of Uggs and smile in the mirror. I pull my hair into a lose pony tail and take my necklace out of my shirt. I head down stairs to see my favorite, pancakes with fresh fruit, bacon and a glass of white milk. I sit in my seat my dad across from me, and my mum beside. I eat two pancakes with blueberries, strawberries and apples with caramel. I eat some bacon and drink my milk.
"Have a good day sweetie! Gifts and were going out to dinner tonight!" my mum calls as I head out to my car. Dad comes out a few minutes later with car keys to go to work.
"Adeline, wait!" dad says. I roll down my window.
"Lunch money." he says handing me $20.
"Thanks dad, see you later!" I call as I pull out of the drive way. I turn on the radio and sing along with 'Telephone'. I arrive at the school and pull into the school parking lot. I put my lunch money in my wallet, grab my bag and my phone. I open my door and my two best friends, Amanda and Vanessa. Who are also a couple. Their necklaces are really cute. It's half a heart for each, Amanda's says "love is kind" and Vanessa's says "love is blind" They stood together hand in hand with wide smiles. Oh joy.
I get out of my car.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADDIE!" I roll my eyes.
"Thank you!" I say and pull them into a hug.
"Oh my god! Super cute!" Vanessa says holding up my necklace. Amanda agrees.
"Wonder who it is! It must be someone in the school it's warm..." Amanda says looking around. I shrug.
"I don't know." I giggle. We walk into the school, and head towards my locker. I pull out my math book and I then I feel like I should turn around. Amanda and Vanessa watch as I turn around and my necklace gem lights up. I look and see the schools bad boy, Milo and his gang. Milo's birthday was a few weeks ago, it was a lock with a sulk. I can feel that my necklace wants to go towards him but I stand still. Milo looks around as if feeling the same thing, then his eyes land on me. I glace at Amanda and Vanessa who are watching with wide eyes and smiles. He watches me and I heart starts beating hard in my chest. My necklace is hot and begging for me to move. I take my key in my hand and hold it close. Milo is watching me so closely, a soft smile on his face. He sends me a wink. I hear Amanda and Vanessa giggle at me. I smile back and turn around but watch him from my mirror in my locker. I see him watching me still but almost walks into a open locker I giggle lightly and he hears and looks at me with a goofy smile.
"Math."I say as my necklace becomes cooler. Then I remember that Milo is in my math class. I turn to Amanda and Vanessa.
"Help. Help!" I cry.
"Oh you'll be fine! He doesn't show up half the time anyway! He won't be there." Vanessa says rolling her eyes and pushing me towards our class. Amanda gives Vanessa a little kiss then heads off to art class. While me and Vanessa go to math.
Me and Vanessa take our seat in the middle of the room, I watch as Milo and Brandon, his best friend, walk into class.
"Won't be here my butt." I mutter.
