AH
I shut the trunk of my car and walked to the driver's side door.
I looked up to the porch to see my 11 year old twin brothers, William and Jamie. They smiled and waved with sad eyes as they watched me go.
My mother ran up beside me. Tears were threatening to fall from her tired eyes.
"Alex, hon, try not to forget about your brothers. They are going to miss you so much. We all are." She mumbled the last part. I could see that she was trying not to cry for my sake. I hated to see her cry.
"I love you, mom."
I gave her one last hug, turning on the car, and leaving the only home I had ever known behind. It was hard but I needed to focus on my studies. I was doing this for them after all. I pulled onto the highway, thinking about the past."Get out of here, boy! We don't need you here! You are a disgrace to the family!"
My father was a horrible, dishonorable man. That day would be the first and last time he ever touched my brothers. They were only two at the time, and completely helpless. Even at nine years old, I knew that I had to step up and protect my family at all costs. That was also the day that my father had left. We never saw him again. I was all my mother and little brothers had. So, at the age of nine, I was the protector of my family. My world had changed in a instant. I vowed to never let them be harmed ever again. I promised to never leave them, but that all changed when I graduated high school, and received the acceptance letter from King's College. We all decided that college would bring the best opportunities to our family. My attention was back on the road a few moments later. I don't know what is to expect at college, but I do know that all of my closest friends had been accepted! John, Lafayette, Herc, Eliza, Angie, Peggy, and occasionally Aaron. (If we could get him to loosen up.) I wonder who my roommate would be?Hopefully one of my friends. And absolutely anyone before Madison and Jefferson. My bully and his sidekick who tortured me and my friends in high school.
"Well, Tommy, would you look who it is. Pathetic little Hamilton!" Madison spat.
Madison was the main problem. Now that I think about it, Jefferson really only bullied me if Madison was around. It's like he put on an act for him.
"Yeah, look at him. He's cowering." He said with a look of regret in his eyes. Jefferson was always a little nicer to me for some reason. I appreciated that, but he was awful to my friends and that is an unforgivable act.
I remember it all so clearly. It was the last day of high school, Madison started to trash talk my friends and family, while Jefferson stood quietly in the back. After Madison left, he offered me his hand and attempted to apologize. By that I mean he mumbled, "heyimreallysorryaboutthatseeyoulaterhamilton." To this day, I still wonder why.Thomas Jefferson was an ass...
to everyone except me.
