Chapter 3: the dispute
Knowing that I couldn’t hide much longer, I jumped down and landed steadily in two feet. I stood up and returned Dreck’s stare, “Hello,” I said in monotone, careful to not show my anger. Anger, that he purposely plans to send these people to their deaths. No one has a fighting chance against the magic users, everyone should know that. The most sensible thing to do would be to just try to survive and accept this fate. “How did you know I was there?” I asked nodding towards where I had just jumped from.
“I have been wandering around this tree for a while waiting for people to arrive and I saw you take your hiding spot.” Dreck answered a matter a factly. “So, do you agree to my plan?”
“No,” I say defiantly, “Although I am fine with your plan to work together to keep us all alive, I have no intention in fighting any magic users.”
“Did Damon really get to you?” Dreck asked mockingly.
How could he have known that? I asked myself.
“No,” I answered glaring at Dreck. “But you and I both know we don’t have a chance fighting against the magic users. You have an idea of what they can do. They were the ones that blasted us up here.”
“Robin does have a point...” Grace jutted in.
“The magic users were the ones that blasted us up here trying to kill us! I think we should pay them back.” Dreck cut Grace off angrily.
I was starting to loose my patience, “Open your eyes! Turn away from revenge for just a second and face reality! If we even try to fight them we would all end up dead!” Everyone else nodded in agreement.
“We do have a chance in winning if you join us, Robin!” he persisted.
“Me? What can I do?” I asked, taken aback.
“I heard Damon tell you that he had to gain your trust, right? That means your valuable to them.” his eyes glinted with confidence.
“Maybe he wanted my trust so I can stop idiots like you from throwing away your lives!” I shouted back at him, he was really pissing me off.
Seeing that he arguing would be pointless, he gave up, “Fine, but it’s settled then. We will work together to survive.” Everyone nodded. “Um... okay I know all of you already, but you may not know each other. So lets first start with introducing ourselves...”
Everyone took up their courage and introduced themselves. Once everyone was finished, moon was high in the sky, so we worked together to set up a temporary camp. It was not much but once we get our rest and got everything sorted out, life should get a lot easier. Everyone was laying next to or close to each other to preserve body heat while I sat back on my branch, taking watch from above as Dreck and Grace watched from the ground.
