Flight 282

The Landing

It was just another sad day leaving the amazing Italian city Rome after a relaxing summer break going back to home in Dubai. This was my first time leaving the country on my own with besties, the coconuts. Well, that was our nickname anyways. Me, Leaf, Leaj, Ary and Lara boarded the Emirates flight 282 not knowing doing so would change our lives and the world forever.

There were 275 passengers on board with us on the 10th August 2015 with the youngest passenger being 8 and oldest at 65. It felt as if it was a regular flight, everyone minding their own business, some working away on their laptop and us trying to relive and soak up the last moments of the incredible vacation. 

Suddenly out of nowhere extreme turbulence shook the aircraft sending everyone onboard into panic mode. Us only being 17 at the time, started worrying, 'are we going to die here' and 'we're too young to die, we've got our whole lives in front of us!' . After 15 seconds of intense shaking on the plane, it suddenly stopped. Everyone had relieved looks in their face including us, and we just couldn't wait to land back at Dubai Airport at this point.

We finally were landing and honestly we were just exhausted and wanted to get home to our parents safely. In the cockpit you could hear the pilots rushing to get onto the ground, but they kept trying but the signal was blocked. Worried faces appeared on them, they started panicking. 'Where were the ground control?' and 'why weren't they answering to let us land'. A decision was made that they had to just land and hope you don't get killed even though everyone on board was paranoid. Starting to go down from the puffy clouds, a loud ringing sound and smell appeared from the right side of the plane, we turned around and SAW THAT THE ENGINE WAS IN FIRE.  Now everyone was screaming and shouting in fear. Pilots and flight attendants quickly got everyone to sit and hold tight as they took us to ground, but not knowing what we would find back on the earth's surface.
