"Saying sorry doesn't mean anything if you keep doing the thing you're apologizing for," A young girl scowled. She stood on top of a tall rock, glaring down at her friend.
"Yeah, yeah, Ire... don't waste your breath."
Ire hopped down. Her navy blue and bright gold tartan plaid overcoat glided with her as she strolled next to her compadre, Apricity.
"We're gonna be fine. I've done this before, as you know..." Apricity sighed. A large bundle was hidden underneath her frilly nightgown.
Ire then took Apricity's right shoulder and whipped her to face herself. "Give it. You'll get us caught."
Apricity gave a dumbfounded look. "The hell do you mean 'we'? You're not with me in this." Her bright white hair and dark, saturated skin were a shocking contrast. They were what entranced so many of their fellow Moonflowers. Despite this, she was widely considered an outcast and unruly.
"I've decided that I am now, so you best hand it over else someone sees it through your thin little dress." She took a finger and placed it on the center of Apricity's collarbone. "You're not too good at this whole stealing thing, are you?" Her pixie chestnut brown hair served to properly frame her thin, starvation ridden face. Despite the attempt she had made to hide her horns, their iridescence was still entirely present. They curled around the top of her head and spurred out as the curve down began.
Apricity let out a labored sigh. "Fine." She then lifted a bottle of bright gold and copper hue. It glowed softly in the eternal night.
Ire snatched the bottle with great imprudence. "Thank you!" She exaggerated the phrase by drawing it out.
Apricity then turned towards the path in front of them before continuing down it. "Just don't drop it. It's the exact type I need.
"Why? What's up this time?"
Apricity then scanned her surroundings, looking for any unwanted ears. "I think... I think I've found how to summon them."
Ire's eyes widened and her jaw went slack. "Really? Where? When?"
Apricity gave a sly smirk. "Just the other day in the forest. You can help me if you keep this all a secret."
"Oooh! Of course, anything to be able to see them!"
"Pinky promise?"
Ire giggled before replying, "Absolutely, pinky promise."The forest was located on the dark side of the moon. The bioluminescent floras and faunas lit up the land, though. Apricity and Ire wandered through the glowing blue leaves of the forest of weeping willows. Apricity led Ire to a ruined colosseum of sorts. Its marble pillars and floor were coated with a thick layer of moss, it emitted a soft blue hue.
"So..." Ire began, "How does one summon such a celestial being?"
"You make stardust soup and chuck it into the pit!" Apricity took up a clay bowl with a mixture of water and different spices in it.
"Not to divert the conversation, but, ahh... How many times have you been caught by the headmaster with that exact jar of stardust?"
Apricity looked up to the sky, deep in thought. "I'd say like four or five times. Something like that."
"Hm..." Ire plopped down on the grass and moss in front of Apricity. "You never actually said why you want to summon Apharos."
"I-uh... I want to ask them a question. It's about where I came from."
"Oh, I remember you telling me that when your quest to steal the headmaster's stardust began." Ire noticed the goosebumps on Apricity's skin. She was only in a thin, dainty little nightgown meant for the bright side of the moon, where the camps for troubled children were. Taking off her overcoat, Ire placed it on Apricity's shoulders. "Your hair is so pretty, you know."
Apricity looked up from the bowl. It was now glowing with all of the stardust she had poured into it. "Thank you." The girl reached up and touched Ire's horns. "And I have always adored your horns."
Ire's face went a bright shade of pink and her eyes darted away.
"I hope this is good enough," Apricity mumbled, "They can be awfully picky, you know." She then stood up, bowl in hand, and walked over the center of the colosseum. There was a pit in the middle. At the very bottom was a bright pool of golden water. Apricity then began to pour the contents of the bowl into the pit. She watched as it landed in the water, making a small splashing noise. Hurrying back to where Ire stood, Apricity had a hopeful feeling.
She said to Ire, "I've only heard tales of what they look like!"
Ire was practically jumping with excitement, along with Apricity. "Ooh! I know! Ugh, I still can't make up my mind as to what I want to ask them."
"Ire! Isn't it a little late?"
"It's never too late." She gave a sheepish smile.
Apricity then took Ire's hands in her own as they turned to face towards the pit. An immense light sprouted from the hole in the ground. It went careening into deep space. The call of a great stag sounded from the distant stars. In an instant, the ground shook with the weight of the great beast landing upon it.
"Come on!" Apricity exclaimed.
The pair took off into the woods ahead of them. Ire cared not to know where she was going. The adrenaline rushed through her and the excitement of being held in Apricity's hand pumped through her blood. It wasn't long before the girls arrived at the edge of an immense crater. And, low and behold, was Apharos.
Both Ire and Apricity let out an audible gasp as they gazed upon the stag. Despite the crater being hundreds of miles deep, Apharos stood with their head another 10 miles above the pair. His glass and crystalline figure glowed with a warm, loving golden light. As soon as Ire and Apricity had stopped running Apharos dipped their head down to meet their eyes.
"The stars are pleased today," Apharos greeted. Their voice echoed through the entire land.
Apricity was awe-struck. She never thought this day would come. Words found themselves to be useless in this moment, so the girl simply pointed towards her heart.
Apharos gave a smile. Their three eyes widened and rolled back into their head. "Apricity..." Their voice was noticeably quieter. The wind began to pick up, blowing Apricity's nightgown and hair wildly. "You are of the Andromeda colony. They are currently dwelling on the outskirts of this very cloud. Seek them out, they are awaiting your return." The beast then closed their eyes before turning their attention to Ire.
"I-uh... I want to know... h-how to get us off of this... Uhm... celestial body."
Apricity looked over at Ire. Her eyes were emitting a golden flow of tears. She squeezed Ire's left hand a smiled.
"Yes, yes. Come forth. Both of you."
And so the girls stepped towards the edge of the crater.
Apharos lowered their head even further. "I shall take you out of this treacherous place."
Ire and Apricity were then whisked away into the starry sky. There was no need for them to clutch onto Apharos' antlers, as there was no air resistance.
"Thank you... Ire" Apricity whispered to her friend.
Ire gave a laugh. "For what?"
"For taking me with you."
"Guess that pinky promise isn't worth much now."
Apricity smiled. "Hah! Yeah... I suppose so."
The clouds of stardust and materials were so beautiful. Their glorious pinks, oranges, purples, and all colors were a glorious sight to behold. It made Ire feel at home, somehow she knew she belonged there. She belonged there with Apricity at her side. Much like the love she held for her dear friend, she wanted to bottle it all up and stow it away, still in sight, but in her control.
