They walked into the dark library and went up to the desk. Everyone stared at Lacey. Why shouldn't they? Besides school her Mother kept her in Broadwin House. "I am looking for a person with the initals E.M.B if you have any leads?" Will asked the stern looking woman at the front desk. She brought out three folders and handed them to Will. One was a man around 40 and he was born in 1940 so they ruled him out. Another around 10 which Lacey knew the child because she went to her school so that was ruled out. One more folder. In it was a bunch of newspaper clippings some pictures and a name. Emma May Broadwin. Born 1842 London England. She moved here at the age of 5. Lacey's head spun. Broadwin was her last name which meant E.M.B was related to her.  They found a picture which Lacey almost dropped in shock. It was almost like looking in a mirror exept for the 1850's style dress the girl wore. Even though she too was serious looking her eyes almost sparkled through the page. The picture wasn't color so Lacey couldn't tell what color the girl's eyes were or her hair but she had the same curls as Lacey and her face even looked the same. Then Will tapped her shoudler. A newspaper clipping with a headline. "Broadwin House shut up threee children inside." She read on. It said that Emma Broadwin had locked up Broadwin house allowing only certian people in. The children were. Faye Broadwin,Joy Broadwin, and Baby. It said Emma was crazy and locked the children and her self up shortly after their Mother's death. It said there were rumors Emma killed their Mother and after being confronted locked the house up. Lacey stared at it. Who was Emma really? Was she truly crazy? Who was Baby and why had she locked the four of them inside? Will asked if they could take the folder for a "history" project and the lady granted it to them. Will took her outside. Lacey was still dazed. She saw a tall man in a dark outfit staring at her from a park bench accross the street. For some reason he made chills go down her spine. Will took her arm gently and lead her to the bus stop. "Werid huh?" He asked her once they were safely on. "Yeah very weird Will." "Who is Emma?" "I mean I have so many questions." "Me too." Will said nodding his head. "Seems like there is more to the puzzle then just the diary enteries." She nodded."But what?" She asked. They both just shook their heads. For some reason Lacey felt they needed to dig deeper. She looked at the picture again. This girl had something to do with whatever was going on. What had this early Broadwin family been like? Why had "Baby" not been mentioned in the enteries. Was the picture of the kind looking woman Mrs. Broadwin? Had Emma REALLY killed her own Mother?" Lacey and Will ahd no clue but they had to find out. There was a reason clue were placed in Broadwin estate. Only two were found so far but the two would find the rest. They had to to piece everything together. "So Lace so you want to continue digging?" Will asked looking at her. "Yes I do Will fo some reason it seems there is something more to this." "I think the enteries and that newspaper clipping means something." "I am just not sure what.." Will nodded and gently put the picture and clipping back in. They were very fragile being so old and when the two took them out of the folder they would have to be careful. "LACINCE MAY BROADWIN!!" She heard her Mother shriek. She tried to signal to Will  to leave the area but he shook his head. "Where in the world were you young lady?" "You missed lunch AND Chester has been looking all over for you!" "You are also in jeans!!!" "Young lady you are grounded!" "You will NOT leave your room for two weeks exept for meals and the bathroom!" Lacey just stood there with Will. She wanted to cry so badly right now. Will's usually kind bright eyes were very dark right now. When he spoke Lacey was surprised how calm his voice was as if he was talking to a toddler. "Mrs.Broadwin Lacey and I just went to the library I am deeply sorry for any trouble it caused truly." Her Mother calmed down a bit but Chester came out from behind her. His look made Lacey want to run. "Lacey your coming with me!" He grabbed her arm tightly and tried to pull her. Maybe perhaps a week ago yes she would just let out a small squeak and follow but not now she was tired of Chester and why couldn't she go the the library? Normal kids did. "No!" She screamed pulling back but he just held on tighter making a red mark on her arm. She cried out in pain as she tried to pull away. Why wasn't Mama doing anything? Blast! Papa was at a meeting if he was here he would save her. She didn't see Will exactly but she heard Chester yell and release her arm. When Chester stood up his eye was black. "Lacey!" Her Mother said horrified.  "No Mama he was hurting me and you just stood by!" Hot tears poored down her face and Will stood in front of her. "Mrs. Broadwin she's right he was hurting her and you just stood there!" "Lacey is not an animal she shouldn't be pulled around on a chain!" "Young man go to your room NOW!!" "Mr. Broawin will take care of YOU!" Lacey backed up as Chester tried to grab her again. As he went to grab her arm she swung her left arm around and hit him in the face. She shrieked and ran. Will followed her and she heard her Mother's yells for her and Chester's threats. What was wrong with Mama? Why had she just stood there? When she reached the orchard she couldn't run any more. She broke down and started crying. More like sobbing.  Will just knelt down and tried talking to her. "Lace please stop please I hate you crying." It brought him back to when he told her he was leaving when they were kids. She haden't been this upset but still he hated seeing her crying. "Will s-s-s-she just s-s-s-stood there!" She said in between heavt sobs. "I know Lacey but I hit him doesn't that make you feel a bit better?" She gave him a small smile and nodded. "He shouldn't be here anyway shouldn't he leave?" She shook her head. "No he is staying untill the Summer Ball." He helped her stand up and brought her around the servants door that was now just a door that was used to get into the basement and now get Lacey into her room without being caught. He took her up the staircase and to her room he stopped at the door. "Lace I promise things will be fine I will talk to your Dad he won't want Chester hurting you." She nodded as she untangled her hair from when she was running. Now out of her ponytail it fell down her back making her look even more upset. He knew after she slept for a while she would be perfectly fine. He crept down to his room and fell on his bed. His Dad was going to kill him for talking back to Mrs.Broadwin but he knew when his Dad found out he wouldn't stand for Lacey to be treated like a dog. At least she had fought back he knew last week she wouldn't have. He swore though if Chester ever so much as scratched her he would KILL him.
