I live an average life, average boyfriend, average friends. Little did I know today was going to change everything. It all started like any other day would.
"Emily, it's time to wake up!" my mother shouted.
"I am getting up!" I responded.
I slowly got up feeling my feet touch the hard cold wooden floor, a small shiver went through my body. I walked over to the shower hoping that the hot steamy water would wash away my exhaustion (I had been working late last night on a school project, so I didn't get much sleep.) As soon as the hot water hit my skin I felt much better. I got out of the shower and went over to my closet and picked out my favorite t-shirt and jeans and I went downstairs to eat breakfast. My sister, Kayla, was already downstairs eating breakfast.
"Good morning Em." Kayla said.
"Morning." I replied
Kayla looked at her watch. I could see a look of panic on her face.
"I have to go Ems, i'm going to be late. Have a good day." Kayla said to me with a hint of panic in her voice.
"Bye Kayla." I replied
I finished my breakfast and I walked out the door, the cold breeze hitting my face felt calming. I hurried to the bus stop as I only had 5 minutes until the bus came.
I got on the bus and I spotted my best friend, Jenny, waving at me. I smiled and I went over and sat next to her. She told me about how sweet her boyfriend, Chase, was. It was all we ever talked about since she got her boyfriend.
Chase was an amazing guy. He had everything he had the looks, the smarts and most importantly he cared about his girlfriend. I was happy that my best friend has a boyfriend who treats her right and respects her but I couldn't help but feel jealously hearing her go on and on about him. I had a boyfriend but he had been feeling distant recently.
"Jenny, I love hearing about Chase but I feel like we haven't talked about the stuff we used to talk about." I moaned.
"Ems, at least my boyfriend doesn't cheat on me." She stated.
My boyfriend, Luke, had cheated on me 6 months ago, foolishly I forgave him I knew he wasn't good for me but I still loved him and I was holding onto the feelings we used to feel at the start of our relationship. I thought maybe our old feelings would come back but they never did. I think we were both holding onto each other for the memories.
"I know he isn't good for me but I still love him." I said.
We were interrupted by the loud screech as the bus stopped. We were here at school. Jenny immediately ran to Chase and hugged him. I was stood alone in the entrance of school when I noticed Luke standing with his friends. They were your typical group of high school jocks, they only really cared about 2 things: sports and getting the most girls as possible.
I looked over at Luke and our eyes met, we shared a look of happiness for a moment but were interrupted when the bell rang. I walked to class alone as I did most days ever since Jenny got a boyfriend. Luke used to walk with me everyday but recently he had just been walking with his friends.
I walked into my biology class and I noticed a tall, mysterious sweet looking boy.He had fluffy, stylishly messy brown hair. He had beautiful honey brown colored eyes. His eyes had a hint of gold in them that made them shine but there was something about his eyes that seemed like he was holding a secret, a hint of sadness and pain.
I slowly trudged over to my desk and sat down. Mrs. Jackson then walked in and introduced the mysterious boy to us. His name was James and he came from a school nearby.
"James, there is a spare seat next to Emily you can sit there." Mrs. Jackson said whilst pointing next to me.
I smiled at him and he smiled back his smile seemed warm and welcoming. His smile sent a wave of warmth through my body. No one had ever made me feel like that before. I had to get to know him better. He slowly walked over to me seeming shy and nervous.
The lesson dragged on as usual, although I caught myself glancing at James every once in a while.
"You have a biology project that needs to be completed by next week you can work with the person you are sat next to." Mrs. Jackson said.
"Uhh, can I... have your number for the project." I said nervously.
"Sure!" Replied James.
For the first time in a while I felt happy. Maybe I could get to know James better and become friends. Although, my happiness dropped a little when I realised James only gave me his number for a school project. I was jumping to conclusions too fast. The bell rang and I got up and I got through my first few lessons. I couldn't stop thinking about how perfect James was but I had a boyfriend I couldn't be thinking about other guys, but he didn't treat me well so why would it matter anyway I only wanted to be friends with James.
It got to Lunch time and I went to the cafeteria to get some food. I looked around and I saw my Jenny and Chase at a table but they were making out and I was not about the third wheel once again. Luke was with his jock friends. I noticed James sitting alone eating his food he looked deep in thought. I walked over to him and sat down. He jumped as he realised I was there.
"Oh, sorry I didn't mean to scare you." I said, apologetically
"It's ok I was just thinking about some stuff." He explained
He smiled and I felt that warm fuzzy feeling again. I could feel my cheeks warming up.
The bell rang and I went through my lessons sluggishly just waiting to get home. Finally, after many hours of boring lessons that final bell rang and I slowly clambered into the bus being exhausted. I sat alone on the bus as Jenny went home with her boyfriend.
"Ding!" My phone buzzed.
It was a message from James that read "Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for making me feel welcomed to the school."
I could feel a smile fill my face. I couldn't stop smiling. When I got home I went and sat down on my bed and I started reading my favorite book but my mind kept going back to James.
A few days pass and I was on my bed watching tv.
"Emily!" My mother called out.
I slowly got out of my bed and went downstairs. My mother looked worried.
"Emily, I don't know how to say this but Jenny has gone missing." She stuttered.
I didn't know how to feel I just ran upstairs in shock.
