Is being mean normal?

I hate when people are so surprized when im nice.

I have people come up to me on a daily bases wheather I have just meet them or I have known them for a really long time, and tell me that I'm super nice and they love how good of a person I am.

Dont get me wrong, I am very happy that they notice im nice and I am thankful for the compliments. but why are they so surprized that I'm so nice? Are people these days just normaly that mean, judgemental, and inconsiterate that its a big deal to find just one person who is nice?

And it makes me wonder how the people that accualy notice enogh to say somthing about me being nice, are being treated by other people. I love being nice to strangers but it makes me sad when they make a big deal because it makes it seem like they never get treated nice.

If I'm right, and that many people are being treated bad, then that must mean theres at least double the people that are doing the bullying.

I'm not saying that everyone in the whole world is a horrible person, but why is it so normal for people to be mean?
