Preface
"Hey," I said smiling at him with that toothy smile that he always claimed that he loved. He had a stony expression, usually, I could easily read him but this time I couldn't. He knew that I could easily read how he felt, so I could tell he purposely fixtured his expression keeping me from reading him.
As I walked closer to him, I could hear my heart pounding faster within each step. I was dating Kai Rigby, the most popular guy at school. He was good-looking with his strong jawline and his bright cappuccino-brown eyes. You might think his looks were the only reason why he was popular but he was also the captain of the soccer team as well. The high school had a national ranking in soccer so it was a big sport at our school.
He wasn't that stereotypical dumb jock; he was ranked number three in his grade and was in the science competition club as well. He was known as the perfect package in school. It still boggled my mind that he noticed me out of hundreds of other girls he could easily have gotten. I was just a shy sophomore.
"Hey." He said as I gave him a soft peck on his cheek. He watched me with his continued stony expression.
"What's wrong?" I asked with genuine concern.
"I'm breaking up with you." He said softly and my eyes widen in shock.
"Why?" I asked, trying to hold back my tears.
"I was messing with you. I was fooling around with you to win this bet with my friends that I could get you wrapped around my finger. It was all fun and games, but it's over. Did you really think a guy like me would actually fall for you? Look at me and then look at you." He said, chuckling and I took a deep breath. Hurt and anger ricocheted and trembled my body. So I slapped him on the cheek with all the anger that contained in me. Tears were streaming down my face with a mixture of anger, humiliation, and sadness.
I stormed away and I badly wanted to turn around. My body could only resist for so long; so I turned back and he had his stupid smirk that I once foolishly thought I loved.
I ran upstairs and fell into my bed, just crying. I skipped the next day of school because I was too sad. I was constantly crying, refusing to eat and my mother was worried about me. So she arranged that I stay with my father who was in upstate New York and I attended school there for the rest of my sophomore year.
After sophomore, I had a change of heart and decided to move back with my mother in California near the middle of the summer. I didn't change much except: was much more snarky, sarcastic, and a lot more bitchy. I was pessimistic and a lot more outspoken than I used to be. I rekindled with Willa, who were friends with me before I moved away. They were there for me and knew my past with Kai Rigby.
So I was back in school with my haunted past. I heard that Kai Rigby went to some soccer school in Europe so I was fine with that. Sure, his asshole friends were still there but if they said something: all hell would be raised. Also, his brother was there, Carter Rigby, he knew me. Or well he knew the old me, but I wanted to show that Kai was nothing to me and will always be nothing to me. And he wouldn't define how I live life.
So as you can easily tell, this is a new story and I hope it'll turn up good.
