Yamaguchi sighed as he rested his head on his desk. He didn't get much sleep last night, but he didn't really know why. He just had an uneasy feeling, and it was eating at him.
"Are you okay?" Tsukishima asked, tapping his friend's shoulder. "You look tired."
Yamaguchi managed a small smile. "I'm fine!" He assured Tsukishima. "I had a little trouble sleeping, but it's fine!"
Tsukishima didn't seem convinced, but he nodded. "Alright," He shrugged, and went back to doing his work.
Yamaguchi closed his eyes. What's wrong with me? Should I see a doctor or something? Maybe I just need some sleep... Yeah, that's it. I...just need...sleep...
Yamaguchi drifted off, leaving behind the real world, and into a deep, peaceful sleep...
Yamaguchi looked around. He was in the woods. It was beautiful. There were trees of every color. Yellow, green, pink, you name it. The sky was clear, and the sun seemed to be setting, making the sky a magnificent shade of orange. When Yamaguchi looked down at the ground, he saw an endless field of yellow roses.
He glanced around, looking for someone- anyone. He didn't want to be alone. He would've even settled for Kageyama.
"Yamaguchi!" Someone shouted, waving their arms. "Yamaguchi!"
He looked in the direction of the voice, and felt his worries drift away. "Teru!" He shouted, opening his arms, and running towards him. But, by the time he got close enough, he saw that there was something off about Terushima. Yamaguchi stopped in his tracks, an unsettling atmosphere washing over him. "Teru?"
Terushima let out a small sigh, and gave Yamaguchi a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry, Freckles."
"Sorry for what?"
"Making you fall in love with me."
Terushima started to walk away, but Yamaguchi grabbed his wrist and stopped him. "Wh-why would you be sorry for that!?" He shouted, tears welling up in his eyes.
Instead of answering, Terushima gave Yamaguchi a sad look, and disappeared, leaving Yamaguchi alone.
Suddenly, the woods didn't look beautiful to Yamaguchi. They seemed cold, and lonely. All the leaves had fallen from the trees, and the sun had gone down, making the sky pitch black. The only thing that stayed the same was the ground. The ground that was filled with those bright, yellow roses.
Yamaguchi sat upright in his seat. He quickly looked around, and realized that he was still in his classroom. Tsukishima was still sitting behind him. The teacher was still teaching the lesson. Nothing had changed.
Yamaguchi let out a sigh of relief, and raised his hand. "Excuse me, ma'am? May I use the restroom?"
The teacher gave a small nod, and Yamaguchi left.
Once Yamaguchi was in the hallway, he pulled out his phone, and called Terushima.
"Hey, Freckles. What's up? You've never called during school-"
"I fell asleep in class, and I had a nightmare..." Yamaguchi said quietly, even quieter than a whisper.
There was silence for a little bit, until Terushima decided to break it. "Well, it was just a dream, right? So, you don't have to worry about it being real, or hurting you, right?"
Yamaguchi hesitated. "R-right, but still! It just-" He sighed, "it felt so real."
"Hey, is there...something goin' on? If there's anything goin' on, just tell me, okay, Tadashi?"
"You...you called me by my first name," Yamaguchi whispered, a small smile growing on his face, and a faint pink blush spreading through his cheeks.
"w-well, yeah! I mean, if your boyfriend, which happens to be me, can't call Tadashi, then who can?"
Yamaguchi chuckled, but his happiness didn't last long. Yamaguchi felt something crawling up his throat. Something that he hadn't experienced in some time, but was so sickeningly familiar that he immediately knew what was coming.
"Teru-Terushima-" He coughed once.
"What is it?" Teushima asked, worry evident in his voice.
"I-I-I think it's- I think it's back-" He coughed a second time.
Terushima's breathing got heavier, and faster. "No, no, no, no, no- It-it can't- I- you think what's back?"
"The-the han-hanah-hanahaki disease-" Yamaguchi coughed a third time, and an entire see of yellow roses came flooding out, giving him no chance to breath. Yamaguchi fell to the floor, dropping his phone, and gasping for air. He watched, tears filling his eyes, as the roses came out, but they seemed to have drops of blood on them. Some of them were completely covered in blood. Then, he saw it. There were vines connected to the flowers, and connected to the vines were thorns.
"Yamaguchi!" Tsukishima ran over to him. "Damn it! Yamaguchi, we need to get you to a hospital!"
"I-" Yamaguchi tried to speak, but his words were cut off by more roses.
Tsukishima pulled out his phone. "I'm gonna call an ambulance, or-or something!"
At that moment, the teacher came out. "Tsukishima, you can't just-" She stopped when she saw the scene before her. "What- what is going on?"
Tsukishima shot her a glare. "You're the teacher, figure it out!" He snapped.
Soon, everyone in the classroom heard Tsukishima and the teacher arguing, and teenagers being teenagers, they stepped out of the classroom to watch. In turn, students from other classrooms came out to see what all the noise was, and soon enough, every second year knew that Yamaguchi Tadashi had the Hanahaki disease.
