"AND HERE'S YOUR SCHEDULE."

daniel accepted the papers with a polite smile, stepping back from the text as he fiddled with the strings of his bag.

there were not enough words to describe how much the blonde hated transferring schools in the middle of the year. in high school it was annoying, but it wasn't terrible. he had a pretty good idea of how things worked out and making friends came easy to him.

but in college, consider it his worst nightmare. campuses were immensely larger than any high school he'd transferred to. the campus he'd been at before could only dream of this complex. it seemed like every sidewalk had 50 different places it crossed over onto different sidewalks. every building had at least 6 stories, not to mention the dorm rooms.

he didn't know how he'd manage to land a scholarship to this kingdom but he sure was going to enjoy it best he could.

luckily he already figured out where his dorm room was and how to get back to his long term home, so returning to all of his belongings was no problem. he'd been informed he would have a dormmate, when he had first arrived the person was in class but he assumed they'd be back by now.

he actually was pretty nervous about meeting his rooming buddy. while you didn't have to be friends with your roommate in college, he was already late to the semester and if he had any chance of making friends or making a friend group, his roomie would be his best choice.

the blonde knocked a few times before sliding his key into the door, peaking his head through for any signs of life. "hello? anybody here?"

footsteps were heard of further inside the small room before a tall blonde stumbled out from one of the bedrooms, a goofy smile plastered on his face as he made his way over to daniel, "hey, you're my new roommate right?"

daniel nodded, letting an easy smile slip onto his face as well, "yeah, yeah, hey i'm daniel."

"eben."

the two shook each others hands, daniel now fully inside the room as he placed his papers down on one of his stray luggage.

the blonde looked down at his feet, his chest bubbling with warmth at the idea of his mom scolding him if she ever saw his belongings in this much of a mess especially in the presence of a stranger.

"sorry for the mess," the blonde gestured to his things laying across the floor, "i didn't have to much time to tidy up i had orientation."

"nah, you're fine. you're a freshman?"

"oh, no. i just transferred here though so i had the choice of going to orientation, and i did."

"hey, i'll let you get your stuff organized, and what do you say i show you around a little bit. i can introduce you to a few of my friends so you know a couple more faces later on. they're all pretty chill."

"yeah, i'd like that."

eben threw him another friendly grin before the blonde was retreating back to his room. daniel could've done himself a little happy dance once the door closed behind the older's back.

he wasn't expecting anything terrible, but he wasn't expecting anything great either. but now he not only had someone showing him around campus, but meeting a group of friends as well.

daniel plugged his airpods into his ear as he quickly began to tidy up his mess, shoving his stuffed suitcases into closets and tossing smaller belongings onto his bed. his new classes didn't start until much later on into the week.

he was grateful he had time to settle in for a bit before the rush of everything made his life stressful and overwhelming. don't get him wrong, he loved being busy and productive but college just had a special way of completely beating his ass into the ground.

the boy retrieved his favorite blanket from one of his suitcases, wrapping the velvet cover over his shoulders before he was crawling onto his bed. now he was more than well-aware he had things he needed to do, and even more aware that getting on this mattress that he'd borrowed from the school without any bedsheets was just begging for lice and acne and other gross stuff to populate his body, but the ability to care simply left his body.

the boy was snuggling deeper into his blankets, lifting the covers in a futile attempt to shield all parts of his body so that he was resting on that rather than the nasty stain resting a few feet above his head. he'd stress about being stressed tomorrow, for now all he wanted to do was be able to enjoy the small accomplishments he was able to achieve today.
