Chaque jour je t'aime davantage, aujourd'hui plus qu'hier et bien moins que demain

Each day I love you more, today more than yesterday, and quite less than tomorrow

"Seoyun?"

Taehyung called but she wasn't responding. Lost in her thoughts, she sat completely still behind her desk, gaze unfocused.

He plopped down in her front seat and called again, but she wasn't hearing him. He noticed something was off about her since he ran into her near the school gates.

"Yuni?" He uttered my nickname and that's when she seemed to snap out of her daze.

"Huh? Taehyung?" She glanced around the class as students walked in one by one. "Did something happen?"

He shook his head. "No... You just seemed out of it. Did you hear me call you many times?"

She chuckled, waving him away. "Sorry, I was just... I'm still sleepy. Guess I was just dozing off."

Taehyung tilted his head and his eyes flitted over her face before he nodded and went back to his seat.

Rain suddenly poured down and the air felt heavy. The abrupt shifts of my memories were nearly giving me whiplashes from trying to make sense of where I was. They were so irregular and unpredictable.

I was sitting somewhere in the park near my house without a damned umbrella under the rainfall. Such a dramatic person I was, soaking wet while lost in thoughts.

Now that I was looking back, I might had been giving too much importance to how people viewed me. Maybe I was too focused on being perfect that I couldn't be kind to myself. Maybe I was emotionally dependent on others because of that. I let others have the power to hurt me.

Lifting her chin up with his hand, Taehyung made her look at him. The green umbrella he brought shielded both of them from the harshness of the rain.

Her eyes widened. "What are you doing here?"

"I want to ask you the same thing. It's so weird to see you like this... not smiling once throughout the whole day. Are you... alright?"

She forced a smile. "Of course. I'm fine."

Taehyung stared at her for a moment or two before whispering, "You're still not smiling."

Her smile faltered and she hung her head low. "You don't have to worry about it."

I pursed my lips as he leaned down to place a kiss on her cheek. I wondered if my heart was connected to the hers in these memories. It was beating rapidly, so laughable.

"What was that?"

He bit back a smile. "Affection."

A smile grew on her face as she shook her head. "Disgusting."

"Come on. You'll catch a cold."

My past self obliged and held his outstretched hand before following him under his umbrella that covered more parts of her than his.

"Do you still remember those girls?" Envy spoke up, earning my undivided attention. "Our classmates who talked shit about you the next day, too. The reason you're soaking in the rain like an idiot."

I ignored him calling me 'an idiot' and sighed, digging my brain. "Not quite. I don't remember their faces clearly. I forgot what they said, too. It's all blurry. I just remember how hurt I was and how much I held back my tears. Maybe my brain forgot about them as a coping mechanism."

"Right." He heaved a sigh, running a hand through his emerald hair. "What they said isn't worth remembering. They're just jealous of you and wanted to use you like my friends did with me."

My eyes widened but I nodded in silence. Was he comforting me?

"It seems our school was full of envious people. Disappointing, isn't it?" I sighed, crossing my arms over my chest as I watched the two walk around in Taehyung's house. "Do we blame it on how teenagers and young people are vulnerable?"

"Hard to say, really..."

The two of us were watching a movie together at his house. Grown closer and sticking with each other more often like two peas in a pod, we had spent a great deal of time pushing and pulling to be this comfortable. It was hard to believe that I found someone like him. It was even more inconceivable that he accepted me into his life and eventually... his heart.

I froze when they leaned closer to each other from where they sat. Taehyung's hand came up to cup her cheek, fingers threading through her dark hair. Their noses brushed each other, eyes shyly searching the other and flitting to their lips.

"Don't say things like that. There are people who love you," Taehyung whispered. "Like me..."

Ever so slowly, my younger self closed the gap between them and softly pressed her lips on his. Taehyung closed his eyes and slowly opened them when she backed away. They were unfocused but were filled with so much adoration and warmth that my heart skipped a beat.

"I-I'm sorry, Tae. I didn't- Did you want to-"

He immediately kissed her again, stopping her from rambling. My cheeks heated up from watching them getting lost in each other, holding the other closer. The soft sounds, too, were making my heart frantically beat against my chest.

The door opened, allowing me a breather when they broke apart in fright. His parents walked in, exclaiming, "Tae? You're home?"

"Ah! Y-Yeah! I was just watching a movie with..." Taehyung looked at her who was blushing furiously, deciding who to call her as. Girlfriend would be too sudden. "With a close friend of mine."

"Oh my! Are you his girlfriend?" His mother smiled as they walked in and my past self jumped off the couch. "Nice to meet you, dear."

"Oh my gosh, I'm a huge fan of you two." She bowed with a huge grin and I covered my face with my hands, laughing in embarrassment. "I-I'm Jang Seoyun. Nice to meet you, too."

Something clicked in my head and I grabbed Envy's arm, exclaiming, "Wait! Your parents! They're not envious of you!"

"It has to be someone not related by blood," he sighed, watching the memory. "The agreement says so."

I clicked my tongue. "Well shit."

Someone not related...

"That won't do."
