The outcropping of rocks had given The Detachment a highly defensible position. It gave a panoramic view across the plain, a height advantage over any attacker and a retreat route, if required, into the woods.
Danny and Blaine watched as their original pursuers stood not too far away speaking to an orb.
'My lord, I think we have lost them, they managed to slip away in the darkness'
Lucian's voice screamed out of the orb.
'I want my Grandson found, do you hear me. You can't tell me some humans have outsmarted you, find them!'
The orb went dark as communication was cut. Scion shrugged at Gia,
'If he wants him so badly, why is he not here on this wild goose chase?'
Gia placed the orb back in her pack, ignoring Scion's comment.
'We'll camp here, wait for Adato to catch up and then see if we can pick up their trail.
'Greetings fallen ones, my master bids you well'
Scion spun round to see five hooded figures.
The light of dawn was just creeping over the horizon; Blaine decided that their vantage point wasn't the best with the coming light
'Come on Danny, let's find a better perch' he whispered.
As quietly as they could they scaled down the rock face and found a suitable crack in the rocks that they could climb through, it was tight but they were both able to worm their way upwards. The top of the hole was partially covered by a large slab of stone that provided enough shadow in the growing light to hide them both.
Danny reached the top with ease, Blaine who was a little bigger than Danny struggled. There was not much in the way of hand holds and if he puffed out his chest the space between the rock faces allowed him to hang there.
His foot found a crack and allowed him to heave himself up, the rest of the way he had to use brute strength, relying on a hand from Danny to get to the very top. They had missed some of the conversation, but it didn't seem to going well.
From their hideout they saw the figure at the head of the group remove his hood. His beard was clipped to symbolise the House of Lucifer.
'You heard me the first time. Where is the boy?'
Scion was getting more and angrier by the minute.
'We do not answer to Lucifer's lackeys. You can go and tell your Master that his judgment is coming.'
The other four figures removed their hoods.
'You would be advised not to mock Lucifer's Personal Guard, whilst you may have come from the heavens, we can send you to the abyss. Now where is the boy?'
Scion unsheathed his sword.
'Why don't I show you!'
He ran at the leader of the group.
'Scion what are you doing' screamed Gia.
Scions first blow a sweeping arc designed to take of his foes head missed as the leader dropped and swept the legs from under Scion. Scion landed heavily on his back. As this had unfolded Danny had dropped from his position and got Jericho. Watching from within the woods, Jericho pondered his next move.
'I know these guys have been following us and I have no love for Lucian, but they were Drakim. I'm sure that Gabriel would go to their aid, especially against Lucifer's personal guard.'
