I thought people were divided into groups, those good, and those bad, When I was a child, I saw the world in black and white. Unfornetially, I was in the bad group. Now, it’s more grey to me. Though, a demon really can’t change his color, now can he? My wife, a true ace of spades, had good intentions but the.. Execution wasn’t always the best. We didn’t see eye to eye regarding subjects like that, especially since I am a few inches taller than her. So, when we argued about that subject, nine out of ten nights I ended up sleeping on the couch.
Don’t get me wrong, I love her more than anything. Well, that’s tough to say considering our daughters. One of them you may have been introduced to in the previous story.
…..
Wait, I can’t break the fourth wall? Well I should’ve been notified about that sooner thank you very much. I will stop it now.
…
Now I forget what I was supposed to be talking about so.. I’ll just tell how I got reunited with my family. The sound of boots hitting the ground echoed through the alleyway, occasionally splashing through puddles as the person ran, trying to escape the thing chasing them.
“P-Please leave me alone, I never meant to hurt anyone!” The male said as he tried to open the door going into the apartment building.
“But you did,” the thing caught up to him and grabbed the guy's throat, lifting him several inches off the ground. “You hurt seven people, then made a bet against a trickster demon..”
“Please don’t kill me..” the guy choked. “I-I’ll change, I swear!” The guy grabbed at the hands of the thing holding him by his neck, but the nails digging into the things skin didn’t seem to bother it.
“Oh I’m not killing you..” the thing chuckled softly, tightening its grip, “I’m only sending you somewhere people like you belong.”
The guy’s eyes went wide as he tried everything he could to escape, but the thing holding him was too strong.
“Never make a bet against a trickster demon, they always win the bet,” the thing said, followed by a loud CRACK.
The man went limp, falling to the ground when the thing let go.
“Such a pathetic excuse of a human…” The thing sighed. It started walking out of the alleyway, leaving the body of the man there. “Someone will find him in a few days,” it sighed. Walking onto the busy nighttime street, the thing joined the crowds of people, only sticking out by how tall it was, standing a foot above even some of the tallest people.
The thing didn’t seem to catch the person following them, always managing to stay exactly three feet behind it, step for step.
After maybe twenty minutes of walking, the thing turned around a corner and caught sight of the person.
The follower looked directly at it, raising their left hand, revealing a black spade burned onto their wrist.
The thing felt an emotion it hasn’t felt in years: fear. Without taking a second look to even confirm what it saw, the thing took off running towards the forest that lined the edge of part of the city.
If it could get there, then it would be able to lose the person.
Yet, the person was able to keep up with the thing, despite having to take twice as many steps as the thing to cover the same distance.
“What the hell?” It grumbled as it glanced back, leaving the crowds of people behind.
The person, their face covered by a grey mask and black goggles, grabbed what looked like a hatchet hanging from their side, twirling it.
“****, of course she sent that one!” It exclaimed, running faster. “Of the three she could’ve sent she had to send the hatchet wielding psychopath!”
The person managed to keep up with the thing, dodging branches and tree roots with no problem. They said no words and made no sound then their foot hit the ground, the only sound coming from them was the occasional crack of a joint popping.
“Why am I running?” The thing asked itself and stopped, pulling out a dagger. “I’m a demon, this person surly can’t-”
While the thing talked to itself, the person managed to catch up and swing their hatchet at it, hitting its head with the back of the hatchet blade.
The thing stumbled a bit, slashing the dagger at the person, barely missing.
“I’ll tell you this right now,” the thing said, dogging another attack, “you’ll never be able to beat me. You may be a non-human but I will be able to outlast you.”
The person avoided the dagger and jumped into the air, landing silently on a tree branch, their left arm twitching and cracking loudly. They tilted their head, pulling their grey mask down. Things that looked like metal teeth reflected the moon light as they spoke. “Madam Ace sent me..” even though their voice was rough from a lack of use, it was clear that the person was a female. “She is gathering the others, starting with your daughter..”
The thing nearly dropped its dagger at the words ‘your daughter’. But which one? There were two, the older having disappeared and the younger coming back from the dead.
The female seemed to find it amusing, letting out a small laugh. “I was expecting you to match the legends more. Maybe they’re wrong, because you are not the Deadly Joker that I’ve heard about.. You’re about as dangerous as my sister's cat..”
The thing, which one can now assume to be called ‘Joker’ based on what the female said, pointed the dagger at her. “You tell me where she is and which daughter she found, or I will make you talk,” Joker threatened, his voice dropping into a growl.
“Oh oh oh!” The female laughed. “Usually the others tell me to be quiet..” she leaned forward, grabbing onto another branch. “If you would like to know.. You know where to go.”
Joker hesitantly lowered his dagger. He knew that no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t get the one with metal teeth to say anything else. Dammit Ace.. Of course you sent the one I won’t be able to get to talk.. Guess you know your workers pretty well…
“Tell your boss I’ll be there in three days, and if my daughter isn’t there, I will leave,” Joker said as he put his dagger away, looking at the female.
“W-Will do!” She laughed, standing on the branch. “Your wife won’t be happy if you leave again!” With that, she turned and jumped to the ground, running away.
Joker crossed his arms, watching the female until he could no longer see her. “They’re my daughters too..” he sighed, shaking his head.Three days later, Joker stood in the forest a few hundred yards away from a large house that had its lights on. Through the large front windows, he saw a familiar female passing by the windows, her bright red hair styled as normal.
“H-Huh, she didn’t expect for you to show up again!”
Joker looked up, seeing the female from a few days ago sitting in a tree, sharpening her hatchets. “I’m just here to see my daughter again..” he mumbled, running a hand through his hair.
The female flipped and hung upside down on the branch, now eye to eye with the demon.
Joker tried to get a read on the female but was unable to because of her mask and goggles.
“I’d make a bet with ya on how long it takes your wife to snap, but I know better than to make a bet against you,” she said, her left arm twitching.
“I guess you're smarter than you look,” he sighed and walked towards the house.
“And you’re dumber than you look!” She yelled after him, laughing like a madman.
Joker ignored her and knocked on the door, trying to quickly fix his hair before the door opened.
When it opened, he was met face to face with a slightly shorter female, her ice blue eyes staring into his lack of a soul. “Joker, I see Metal was able to get my message to you..” she spoke slowly and carefully, like she was studying him.
Joker rubbed the back of his neck. “I just came to see my daughter, Ace, which one did you find?”
Ace narrowed her eyes, sending a shiver down Joker’s spine. “Doll, and she’s not just your daughter, she is mine as well.”
Joker glanced into the house. “I-I know, is she here?”
Ace sighed and nodded. “Yes, but I won’t let you see her because…” she trailed off, her focus on the forest.
Joker looked at the forest, confused on what she was looking at. “Something wrong? I don’t see anything..”
“Exactly,” Ace said and walked past him, pulling out a handgun. “Metal is gone, and the animals went silent.”
Joker pulled out his own dagger, going to stand next to her. “I’ll go check it-”
Ace cut him off, shoving him away as a knife flew past the two, embedding itself in the outside wall of the house, narrowly missing the window.
“What the ****?!” Joker yelled, looking at where the knife came from, pushing himself to his feet.
“I’m going to go check on Doll, you think you can take care of this?” Ace asked, glancing at him.
Joker nodded. “Of course my lovely Ace, what do you take me as?”
Ace only glared at him before going inside.
“Probably an idiot..” he sighed and headed towards the forest, twirling his dagger. “Whoever is out there, it isn’t a good idea to mess with us. Show yourself now and I won’t have to-”
Pain shot through Joker. His hands moved to his stomach, brushing against the hilt of a knife. Black blood stained his skin, seeping through his white shirt.
“Y-You’re making a mistake..” he grunted at the person standing in front of him. “Ace.. will find you..”
“She can try, but the fire demon is growing stronger..” they responded, their voice muffled by a surgical mask.
Joker tried to step forward but fell, his vision going dark.
“I will make you pay..” he grunted before falling to the ground, falling unconscious.“Don’t worry Madam.. Your husband will live,” the doctor said, looking at Ace. “The wound was very deep but it wasn’t enough to kill him.”
Ace nodded slightly, chewing on her nails. “It’s like the person knew that it wouldn’t,” she sighed.
With that, she left the room and went to her office where three people waited. “You three go and find the others. You,” she looked at the one in the purple mask, “go and find my other daughter.”
The person nodded before leaving.
Ace looked at the one in the white mask with black tears, “go and find the StoryTeller..”
They nodded and left as well, leaving Ace and just one other.
“Metal,” Ace sighed, “you go and find her. We’ll need her medical knowledge if a war is starting.”
Metal nodded and left.
Ace sat behind her desk, sighing heavily.
After a few minutes, she looked up at the door. “What is it, Doll?”
The Doll stood there, holding a toy. “If a war is going to start…. You may want to get the reaper..” she mumbled, pulling at the hair of her toy.
“Very well, as soon as one of them gets back they will go and find her,” Ace said before looking out the window. “We’ll want as many allies as possible if we are to go to war..”
