Nothing happened. I can't believe it. It was the most normal date that I have ever been on. Jason didn't try a single thing the entire night. The most forward thing he did the whole evening was try to hold my hand and that's child's play. I'm actually kind of impressed. After that kiss, I was about to pounce him, but he managed to keep his distance. Maybe he didn't enjoy it as much as I did. It seemed like he did, but seeing how he enjoys our very dull sex life, maybe I read it wrong. Oh, well. It was still a very pleasant evening.
Now, as I sit in the backseat of Bethany's car, listening to the two old friends chat, I find myself staring out the window thinking about that date.
How did he not try anything? I looked fucking amazing. I know I did. I might not be as attractive as the server at Sebastian's was, but I'm not ugly. Yeah, I could probably smile a bit more. Maybe flirt and bat my eyelashes like normal women. Still, did I do something wrong? Did the kiss turn him off?
"Allison?" I hear Bethany call my name. Shit. I need to remember where I am.
"Yes?"
"Did you have any particular stores that you wanted to hit up while we're at the mall?"
"No," I sigh. I really don't. I only came along as a way to get out of the house and spend a little time with people of my own gender. It's been too long since I've had a girls' day out. Though, I might need a manicure while we're out. Pamper myself a little. However, I don't want to intrude on their plans anymore than I already have.
"Really?" Tammy frowns, "At this rate, I'll be home way too early. Think of something. I did not spend all week convincing Vincent to stay home with the kids, just to come home a few hours after I leave. I need time with adults! Surely you can understand that, Allison. You spend all day with teenagers, then come home to that childish brother of mine. I'm sure that you're craving adult interaction as much as I am."
I laugh, "It is nice to spend time with other women nearer my own age."
"See?" Bethany chuckled, "That's why you need to eat lunch at the teacher's table more often. I've spent too many lunch periods listening to the unintelligent drivel spewed by some of the other teachers. If I didn't know better, I'd think they were students. They're just as bad as some of the freshmen."
"Oh, come on, Bethany," Tammy scoffs and smacks her friend playfully on the shoulder, "You're just as horrible. I remember the last time we had you and Thomas over for dinner, you spent more time gossiping with Vincent about whose kids are hooking up with who than you did talking about anything else."
"Well," she shrugs, "what else is there to talk about? I'm sorry that I don't share the same interest as you and Thomas do with the training of our warriors. I'm a teacher. I spend most of my time in the classroom, listening to my students bitch about how Tina stole Jessica's boyfriend, Trenton, or how hot James is while he's at football practice."
"Tina and Trenton are dating?" I ask. It's not that I'm really interested in my students' love life, but that's an odd couple. Trenton is a bit of an obnoxious playboy and Tina is as quiet as a mouse.
"Yeah," Bethany nods, "They started dating last week. It caused quite an uproar in my AP history class. Jessica is not happy. I guess he just broke up with her last Friday and started seeing Tina the next afternoon."
Tammy shakes her head, "I should have spent the day with Jason."
"Why?" Bethany grins, "Do you really think your brother would be better company? He works at the same school as we do."
"Yes, but then I could hear all about that big date he had with the Allison Black," she smirks, "I hear that she's very exclusive about who she chooses to date. He's been looking forward to taking her out since he knew what a date was."
