[Author's Note]

Normally I would put this at the end of a chapter but there are some things you need to know first before reading this.

So before you start reading, I would like to remind everyone that this is a one-shot and that this isn't related to the story line at all. Another thing to take note of is that everyone is alive at this point in time. So Hanako is a human now, not an apparition. That applies to you as the reader and to any of the other apparitions such as Tsukasa and Mitsuba etc. This is "sort of" an AU (manga readers will understand why I say "sort of"). Hanako is referred to by his proper name, Amane Yugi. By the way, you and the other apparitions have always been humans in this AU and the School Wonders are kind of ignored in a way I guess. Anyway, enjoy this one-shot!

And yes, it is my birthday :)

[Your Name]'s POV:

"Bye Papa! Love you!"

"See you later at home sweetheart, have a lovely day! I love you too!"

Shutting the front door behind me, I skipped down the pebbled path as I made my way towards school. It was roughly a ten to fifteen minute walk but it wasn't nothing I couldn't handle.

It was still early in the morning, 8:15 AM to be exact. The sky was clear with not a cloud in sight and the sun was just over the horizon. A soft wind danced its way around me, the cool breeze grazing against my body. Clutching my bag, I inhaled the fresh air knowing that today would be a good day. Or it should be, I hope.

"[Nickname]-chan! Wait up!" A boyish voice called out to me. I turned around, sighting a familiar face.

"Amane!"

"Happy Birthday, [Nickname]-chan!" Amane greeted, tackling me into a tight hug. I hugged him back, giggling as he squeezed me comfortably.

"Thank you!" I cheerfully exclaimed, a wide grin on my face.

Amane then took my hand in his and gently held it in a firm grasp. I gratefully accepted, intertwining our fingers and allowing him to hold my hand as we walked to school together. Our hands swung subtly with each step we took, being in perfect sync with each other. A content sigh escaped from my mouth, happy with how today had begun.

"Happy Birthday, [Your Name]-chan!" Two voices greeted me as soon as I stepped into the classroom, causing my hand to separate from Amane's as the two swarmed around me.

"Aoi-chan, Nene-chan! Thank you very much!"

"[Your Name], Happy Birthday." Akane greeted with a slight smile as he walked by us, sauntering to his desk as Amane followed whilst chatting to him.

"Thanks Akane!" I called out to him as he nodded in reply.

"So... [Your Name]-chan." Aoi spoke to me in a quiet voice, inching closer to me as Yashiro did the same. "Are you with Yugi-kun?"

"H-HUH?!" I stuttered out in surprise, my face immediately turning red. I saw Amane tilt his head curiously at my sudden outburst and I just waved him off with a sheepish grin.

"I mean, you and Yugi-kun always walk to school together and you two seem really close! You practically do everything together!" Aoi reasoned.

"Not to mention that you and Amane-kun came to class holding hands~" Yashiro added on with a smirk, making me more flustered as I waved my hands frantically.
