SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY corbyn could feel himself starting to get anxious. august's presence persistently pushing up against his mind. the blonde in front of him was fitting in among the rest of them, perfectly. but there was just something about the sly glances the boy sent him every few minutes that had the boy constantly averting his glance, waves of anxiety flaring against his skin.

"wait, so what are you majoring in again?"

jonah was the one who posed the question, the older brunette just one of the few at the table, absolutely fawning over the blonde.

"just, uh music. nothing too special." the boy shrugged, sending a warm smile back at jonah before letting his gaze slide over to corbyn once again.

"how come you transferred this semester? your old school seems so much  better for music majors." zach nudged the boy sitting at his side.

daniel chuckled at the question, "i don't really know. i want to have a good college experience as well as education, i guess here seemed like the more obvious place to do that. and i got an amazing opportunity that i just couldn't pass up."

the answer seemed to satisfy the group as they silently nodded. daniel took that as his queue to start questioning the group himself. "so how'd you guys all meet?"

"we're all have the same major, music just like you," eben filled the boy in, "and we kinda all were just friends separately, jonah and corbyn room together, same with jack and zach. and i think it was corbyn and jack that were grouped together for a project, one thing led to another group of 2 led to a group of 4, and then i met jonah at a party and alas, our friend group was formed."

corbyn nodded silently at eben's answer, fiddling with his fingers in his lap. the brunette truly didn't know why he was scared, he just was. he didn't like the anxiety that came with meeting new people, he didn't like feeling vulnerable. subjecting himself to all of the questions with a person he wasn't 1000% sure wouldn't judge him. he especially didn't like the added fear august brought as he stayed near the front of his subconsciousness, sending waves of anxiety through his body. the boy started trembling in his seat.

he'd been put through too many situations where'd he'd been shamed and embarrassed for something he couldn't control. for something, at time, he didn't even want. he can't do it anymore. he won't. he didn't deserve to.

"so corbyn, is it?" daniel directed his question towards the brunette, pulling the boy out of his trance, "what's your-"

the sudden attention brought onto him finally topped the boy over, the brunette shoving himself off his seat, "i-i can't, i-i'm so-sorry." corbyn fumbled as he reached to grab his jacket with shaking hands.

the boy cuddled his hoodie close to his body as he stumbled out of the small shop. the brunette felt like he couldn't breathe. every breath he took did a poor job of filling up his lungs with air, choking gasps falling out of his throat.

corbyn's vision quickly blurred up with tears, his chest heaving with every failed attempting at trying to breath. the boy let out a sob as he felt himself fade away, anxiety grabbing hold of his throat, and not letting go. august froze in his step, body trembling so much he was barely able to remain upright. the boy looked around the campus unsurely, he'd never been out here too often. he just needed somewhere to hide. hide. he needed somewhere safe. hidden.

the boy stumbled off towards a bathroom tucked away behind the branches of a tall oak tree. the fragment continued his futile gasps for air as he sobbed again, letting out a cry as he pushed the door open to the bathroom, diving into the corner of the room.

august pulled his knees up to his chest, shaking as he hugged himself tighter, rocking ever so lightly. the boy gasped as the door to the bathroom slammed open, a worried looking jonah popping from inside as his eyes instantly filled up relief upon seeing the boy in front of him.

the brunette cautiously approached the fragment curled into himself into the corner, august scrambling back as the boy got closer. jonah held his hands, slowly crouching down in front of the boy, "hey hey hey, it's okay. you're okay. august? i'm gonna come closer, is that okay?"

the boy nodded unsurely, gasping out another sob. the boy pulled his trembling legs closer, tears spilling down his face as he watched jonah sit down in front of him, watching the boy with sad eyes. august let out a whimper, feeling pressure form behind his eyes.

the boy cupped his head in his hands, his legs scrambling to shove himself further into the corner. "i got it. i got him. you're okay aug." he mumbled, feeling himself dissociate as leo began to front.

the protector began taking deep breaths, his body still trembling as his forced himself to count in to four before releasing the air once again. the boy looked up once jonah cleared his throat, the brunette knowing his friend enough to know when his alters began to front. "leo?"

the alter nodded slowly, taking in another deep breath. jonah opened his arms for the boy, leo falling into his arms and resting his head on jonah's shoulder. he felt warm arms wrap around him and felt protected as he calmed his body down enough for corbyn to come back.
