The boy looked at his feet with a distant expression. He had been on the bench for a few days due to a small fracture that he had in his right wrist that prevented him from playing volleyball. He had entered the team a few months ago, getting the position of substitute libero and, even though he had not played in an official match yet, he loved being in the Aoba Jōsai.
Everyone was very nice to him and helped him fit in with the team. Well, all except one blond boy with a very bad temper. He hadn't had many chances to talk to Kyotani, but the times he did, he was very distant and cold.
-Do you know when you are going to play again? -a voice distracted him and he raised his head to see Oikawa who was looking at him with a small smile.
-The doctor said that in a month he could come back. -he smiled back at him. -I'm sorry I can't play.
The eldest shrugged it off, assuring that the time was going to pass very quickly and that as soon as he least expected it, he would already be with his teammates.
The sound of the boys running around suddenly stopped, causing the boys who were talking to shift their gaze to where everyone else was looking. Kyotani was there. He hadn't come to train for a week, so everyone stared at him in surprise. But what Asher noticed was his bruised face. He had a cut mark on his left cheek and a barely visible bruise below his right eye. Seeing him like that he immediately got up and walked over while everyone else looked at them curiously.
-Are you okay? -he asked, a bit nervous and worried at the same time.
-What the hell happened to you? The blond asked, pointing to the other boy's bandaged wrist. It's true, Kentaro didn't know what happened to him due to his absence.
-Oh, this is nothing, I'll recover soon. -he replied.
The eldest frowned and turned to look at the team members who immediately returned to training somewhat uncomfortably, all except Oikawa, who was looking at the scene curiously, and the coach, who just looked indifferent since he was used to the blonde's absence.
He sighed and went to a secluded spot on the field to train alone, ignoring Asher's question who, seeing Kyotani's lack of response, returned to the bench and sat there for most of the training while the coach explained the rules, strategies that the players were using and more.
Actually, he didn't have to be there since he couldn't do much, but he was very bored at home and thought that he could learn things by observing his classmates.
When the practice was over, the boys began to gather the materials used by the coach's command and, when they finished, Asher saw Kyotani talk to Yahaba for a few seconds, until the blonde left the place with an expression more furious than usual.
The boy tried to go see what was going on, but he couldn't since he had already left. He stared thoughtfully at the entrance for a few seconds until Oikawa's voice distracted him.
-Asher. -he said, waiting for the boy to turn around to continue speaking. -We are going to go to dinner at a nearby restaurant, do you want to come?
He thought about the answer for a moment. It had been a long time since he had eaten in a restaurant due to the little free time he had, since, apart from playing volleyball, he also helped his father on the farm he owned. But now that he had a fracture and he couldn't do many things, he was able to enjoy the time he had.
-Of course. -he accepted, happy to be able to spend time with his teammates.
After confirming his attendance, Oikawa went to the locker room to change with his classmates and Asher went outside to call his mother and let her know that he was going to have dinner outside. The lady was happy because her son was spending time with friends, which was unusual, so she was quick to agree.
