Instead of having separate events for Nikah [where the vows are taken ] and ruksati [when the bride leave her home and comes to her husbands], both the events were to be held on the same day.
The day being today.
"Mirha, woh red wali lipstick do." Heem asked as she dusted her rosy cheeks with the crimson powder, called blush.
[ Mirha, pass me the red lipstick.]
Mirha passed her the lipstick as she hurriedly wore her heals. The duo were late, again.
It was nearly maghrib time, when the nikah was to take place. Heemayal had yet again occupied the bathroom, for an entirety of half an hour.
God knows what she does inside there.
"Tum dono Abhi tak tayar nahi hue! Mehmaan agai hain- Aur Heem yeh Kya itni dark lipstick lagai hai? Thori halki karo." Heemayals mother scolded.
[ Why aren't you both ready! The guests are here- heemayal! Why is your lipstick so dark? Lighten it immediately. ]
Heemayal pouted at her mothers demands as Mirha laughed silently. The older woman left the room mumbling how 'irresponsible' the girls were.
"Waisey, itna tayar kis khushi mei ho rahi ho?" Asked mirha, a knowing smile on her face as she stared at her bestfriend who was staring at her own reflection in the mirror.
[ By the way, why are you getting all dolled up? ]
"Bhai ki shadi hai, tayar Kyun na houn?" Asked Heem avoiding eye contact, styling her hair in place.
[ My brother is getting married, why shouldn't I? ]
"Hmm..you sure it has nothing to do with..wali bhai?" Mirha asked, a small smirk on her lip.
"Wha-what? No!" Heem as shouted a bit too fast.
"I mean..I don't mind.." Mirha mumbled, a happy smile on her face.
