Chapter 7 - Guilt

Y/n woke up to find Yamaguchi cuddling with her while being asleep. She blushed and smiled, then softly ruffled his hair which woke him up. He stared at her before blinking and smiling back.

"Good morning." He greeted with his raspy morning voice.

"Good morning.." She greeted back with an eye smile.

"I'll need to take a shower and get ready to go to school...you should too.."

"Well, that's only obvious. We're leaving together though." He sat up and scratched his head.

After they were ready, they walked out of his home and made their way to school. During the class, Yamaguchi kept looking at her from time to time, not being able to get the touch of her soft and warm lips on his. He was mostly lost throughout the day and Tsukishima noticed this. During the lunch break, Y/n was out for some errands again, and Tsukishima took this opportunity to sit close to Yamaguchi.

"Oi Yamaguchi, did something happened recently?" He asked and raised his eyebrow. 

"Huh..? What are you talking about, Tsukki..?" He laughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his head.

"You seem awfully ridiculous since you keep touching your lips often and blush for no reason."

Yamaguchi widened his eyes, realizing only know that he has been doing whatever Tsukishima described right now. He looks down since he couldn't disclose what happened, since no one knew about Y/n staying over his home that night, except for Yachi.

"A-ah..nothing happened.." He said and smiled at him with a light blush.

"There it is again." He frowned. "That blush."

Yamaguchi tried to change the topic of the conversation when one of their classmates came over and called out to Yamaguchi.

"There's a blonde girl over there who wants to talk to you.." He said as points to the entrance of the classroom.

"Hm? Yachi-chan..?" Yamaguchi stood up and walked over to her.

"What's the matter..?" He asked and looked down at her, only to get a long stare from her.

"What?" He tilts his head and asked her.

"Um...Why are you blushing..?" She asked while she blushed herself.

"It's still there??" He gasped while covering his cheeks with his hands, earning a small giggle from her.

"Anyway, why are you here..?" He asked, being back to his normal self now.

"I just came here to ask for your help, I got an assignment and I am supposed to write something about volleyball. So I was wondering if you could come over to my place later to help me out with it..?"

He stood as he thought for a while rubbing his index finger on his chin before looking at her and nodding.

"Fine, since I don't have any plans for today, I'll be there to help." He smiled with a thumbs up, making her eyes sparkle in happiness.

"Thank you!!" she smiled widely and walked away.

Yamaguchi came back to his seat and sees that Tsukishima was busy on his phone, with his headphones on, and sighs in relief.

'I'm glad he is busy with something else.' He thinks before laying his head on the table.

Later after school was over, during the volleyball practice, everyone was practicing harder since the tournament was drawing near and everyone wanted to do their best. Yachi was as usual helping Yamaguchi to perfect his serve while Y/n monitored everyone's progress individually along with Kiyoko.

Tanaka and Nishinoya were fooling around for a bit and Y/n got annoyed, going over to them to give them a good scolding. Hinata and Kageyama, on the other hand, were trying to do their quick over and over again. 

Midway through their practice, Hinata spiked the ball a little too hard that it hit Yamaguchi on the face, making him fall on his feet.

"I'm sorry Yamaguchi!" Hinata runs over to Yamaguchi with an apologetic expression worn on his face.

"It's okay, really...don't mind." Yamaguchi stands up as he holds one of his hands over his nose to try and hold the bleeding.

"Go with him to the nurse's office." Kiyoko looks at Y/n and she nods, jogging over to him and holding his arm, walking out with him to the nurse's office.

They entered the nurse's office and he sat down on the chair. They looked around but the nurse wasn't there in the office and she sighed as she decided to do the first aid herself. She went and took the first aid kit, placing the cotton under his nose.

"Hold this for a while..." she says and then places the ice pack on his head.

Once the bleeding stopped, she helped in cleaning his hands and face, but he stared at her, thinking of what he did last night. As she turned around to put the first aid kit back, he held her wrist and stood up, walking up closer to her.

He holds her face and kisses her passionately before pulling away after a while, whispering to her "I love you.." 

"I love you too..Yamaguchi-kun.." 

His eyes widened and pulled away to realize that it was Yachi. He gasps and lets her go. "What are you doing her?" He asks.

"What do you mean..? I was the one who came here with you..." She frowned in confusion.

That's when it hit him, he went back to few minutes earlier and it hit him that it wasn't Y/n who Kiyoko sent to accompany him, it was Yachi. He was just too stuck up in Y/n's thought that he was lost and wasn't aware that he was walking with the Yachi all this time.

He looked down at her as his lips shivered, realizing he has kissed and confessed to the wrong girl, who confessed as well. His mind went blank for a while as he did nothing but just stared at her, having guilt take over him.

"Let's go now, everyone might be worried.." She smiled at him as she opened the door to the nurse's office, and he quietly nodded before following her.

After they returned to the gym for the practice, Yamaguchi seemed to be lost and couldn't practice well anymore, messing up almost all of his serve. Y/n noticed this and was wondering what suddenly made him be like this. During the practice break, Yachi excitedly went over to Y/n and pulled her to the storage room.

"There's something I wanna tell you." She tells excitedly, making Y/n smile.

"I..I'm in love with Yamaguchi." She said and her smile faded, feeling a thousand needles stab her heart.

"R-really..."

"Yes..and he told that he loves me too." 

That was enough to break her, shatter her, and squeeze her heart. She held herself from tearing up while Yachi explained everything that happened.

"I'm so happy right now," Yachi said happily and hugged her tight.

"I see, I'm happy for you.." Y/n had a break in her voice and hugged her tight, letting her tears flow.
