Fearless Graveyard

Chapter eleven

I put my hand on the gray stone, tears rolling down my face. It's official, she's gone.

The stone is rough on my face when I lean on it. She is never coming back.

"Why couldn't you be here?" I cry. Someone had laid yellow roses on each grave, but the ones on Nadia's were rotted and brown. "Why me, why not you? You wouldn't have been so stupid."

I pick up the flowers and through them into the forest. I rip up grass, through word chips and fall on the ground. This can't be happening. Nadia can't leave, it's just not possible.

I grip the stone so hard I feel blood drip from my fingers, sprinkling the grass.

Once I've calmed down, I walk to the edge of the forest. There, small purple flowers grow. Nadia was different, beautiful, she should have a flower that shows that. I pluck a few and bring them over to her grave. Placing them nicely on the stone, more tears fall from my swollen eyes.

"It's ok, I'm sorry." I flinch at the tone, but feel strong arms rap around me. I'm still on the ground when Dom sits beside me, cradling me like a baby. "I'm sorry."

I should've kicked him, run or screamed. After all, he could've been the one. But I was weak, and he was him.

I rested my head on his shoulder and sobbed. "It's- it's- it's-" I was at a loss of words,

"I know." he gave me a small smile and twirled a piece of my hair in his fingers. Just like he did last night. Honestly, I don't know how he didn't figure out I was Vana yet. "It's going to be all right. Your safe here."

I nod and tuck my head in his chest. I notice hanging from his neck is a silver medallion. A silver feather hangs from a thin chain, a bid red circle in the middle of the feather.

I don't know how long we sat there, him rocking me back and forth, me sobbing into his chest. When he finally got up, I was securely in his arms. My head rested on his shoulder and his arms rapped around me so I wouldn't fall. His soft foot steps were like a lullaby, pushing me into sleep.

I felt him knock on a door with his foot once we were inside the castle, "Sofia." he said softly, trying to not startle me.

She opens the door with a bored look, but when she saw where I was, she smiled evilly, "Well, hello!"

"Get out of my way." he muttered, failing at hiding his annoyance. He carefully put my body on the her bed, resting my head on the pillow, "Your safe with me, her! Your safe with her." his pale cheeks fill with pink as he gets up.

I reach for his hand and he kneels beside me.

"Yes?" he pushes a piece of hair from my forehead.

I open my mouth, then realize I have nothing to say, "Thank you, Dom."

He smiles and walks away. Sofia stands at the door way, her mouth wide open. "W-"

"I'll explain tomorrow." I mutter, closing my eyes.
