Almost Time

All the students are running around excitedly, as tomorrow's the day. The day we can tell who our soulmates are. 

"I'm so excited! I can finally have a boyfriend!"

"Imagine if one of us gets Jungkook or Taehyung as our soulmates!"

"No way, that'd be so lucky!"

The junior halls are buzzing with excitement and the teachers are giving us a "free day" tomorrow, so we have all day to find our soulmates.

"Hey, Yujin" I ignore the annoying kid next to my desk.

"Yah! Stop ignoring me" Jungkook keeps complaining.

I just turn my head, so I'm facing the window and huff, "I don't want to hear your nonsense"

"Whatever, once I get my soulmate tomorrow, I'm gonna rub it in your face how much I love them. You're gonna be so jealous"

I hate this day. I've been dreading it my entire life, so I finally snap at Jungkook. 

"Don't tell me you actually believe in soulmates" his eyebrows furrow in confusion but I continue, "It's just a bunch of nonsense, so stop being so desperate"

He stays quiet for a minute, "So you don't believe in soulmates?"

I ignore him again until he tugs my arm, so I'm pulled out of my chair.

"You're not even gonna try to find them tomorrow?" He looks genuinely confused.

I hesitate to respond, trying to explain it to him, "Well, you see... I'll just wait for them to come to me and they'll be pulled by that imaginary force thing"

"Choi Yujin, I feel bad for whoever your soulmate is" I do too.

"I've heard that tons of times from you, so stop-"

"But don't you feel at least a little bad? Imagine they're like me and have been waiting their entire lives for this and their soulmate ends up being someone like you"

I give him a tight slap on the face and his hand reaches up to cup his cheek.

"I feel bad too Jeon Jungkook, so stop acting like you know what you're talking about"

I storm out of the classroom and head up to the rooftop to compose myself. My parents are one of the first soulmate pairs to split up, so my family is a rare case. I live alone now, with both of my parents giving me some money each month.

I stare out at the scenery, standing at the edge of the rooftop and spread my arms. It's times like these that truly make me feel at ease.

"CHOI YUJIN!" 

I'm suddenly tackled to the hard cement and my head throbs painfully.

"WHO THE FU-" I stare up at Jeon Jungkook who is laying on top of me with his arm around my waist from tackling me earlier.

I push him away and scramble back, putting as much distance between us as I can.

"I'm sorry for saying that... but..." He starts.

"But what?"

"Don't jump because of what I said!"
