He cast his gaze upon the people of Liyue, their bustling and hustling to prepare for the Lantern Rite Festival. The sun was setting and the weather was cooler now. A small breeze kissed his bare pale arms as he closes his eyes to soak in the serenity. However, a moment lasts ever so fleetingly.
Shuddering and knees giving way beneath him, the screams of death and terror he could not shake out of his head corrupts the few seconds of calm from him.
"Breathe deep, dear yaksha, your past of grim will not be taunt of your grin. Listen here, dear yaksha, the peace of the people remain, you shant dwell and let past bring pain. Look forward, dear yaksha, the moon arises, and a sea of light awaiting your presence brightens. Do not fret, dear yaksha, for these scars you bear will be not a burden for the people who share your hurting."
A particular bard sang the usual tune to calm his broken soul, to whom he was most grateful. The bard preferred to ease his wavering spirit with a melody from his voice tonight rather than the flute he'd carry. He did not want to alert the townspeople into thinking the Adeptus had arrived.
The night arrived and below, Liyue's streets glittered with life. He who had been awaiting for the dark to surround the busy city began his work. To protect their smiles he must ensure the evils of the night will cease to linger near.
Within a few blinks, the Adeptus returned not for the festivities, but to listen to his bard companion for another song. He did not notice the traveler beckoning him to join until tugged by his sleeve. Slight annoyance plastered his poker face as he reluctantly followed the child and their floating friend to the very top of the mountain a ways apart from Liyue Harbor. The lanterns had just been released from the hands of young children, women, and men of all ages of all generations.
The yaksha who relied on a silly bard to keep peace at mind, an Adeptus who watched over Liyue for centuries alongside Rex Lapis, a soul unwavering to be free from his nightmares. He sat down, dangling his small but strong legs over the cliff, watching the star-like lanterns decorate the dark of sky. All that glitters before him, and Xiao would not forget the sea of light that engulfed his world
