Sweet deception

The wind stirred the leaves and the rustling of the leaves was almost memorizing. I was in a haze while I accompanied my friend on a nature walk. Nicole was certainly talkative and in a bubbly mood as normal.
As I did my best to pay attention to what she had to say I could not help but get lost in my own thoughts.
Over the past year so much has changed, yet so little has improved. I turned twenty five, I lost my best friend. I started college and moved away from the only place I knew to call home.
I barely recognized who I was as an individual.
"Emma, are you listening to me right now? Hello?!"
Nicole shouted flailing her arms dramatically trying to get my attention.
"Yes Im very sorry Nikki, I got distracted. Please continue" I said while attempting to muster a sincere look of apology.
Nicole smirked at my attempted redemption and she waved it off as unimportant.
We continued our hike and after a while we reached our desired destination.
The brush cleared into a clay packed field of grassland and stone rock. A small ledge overlooks the valley underneath, teaming with life.
We listened to music and caught up with one another. Since the both of us are really busy we lack much needed girls nights.
Nicole is a mother of one son with another on the way.
She's pessimistic and witty, bubbly and audacious.
She's been my friend for a while and I'm glad to be here making memories like this. I think to myself
Dawn draws to a close and the sky blushes a deep shade of crimson and pink hues. Basically giving an edge on life itself. It seems to reflect my emotions.
I'm bewildered distraught and mercilessly a hopless romantic.
I've loved sunsets, they always intrigue me and lighten the mood.
Nicole and I got lost in small talk and let the minutes tick by without a care in the world. The stars swallowed the night and captivated me. As if I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life before, I cherished this euphoria that dwelled within my soul.
"Real talk girl, how do you feel now that we are actually here in Mesa Arizona, living it up?
Are you content?" Nicole questioned looking a bit worrisome.
"I'm great, couldn't be better, honestly." I reassured her. I sighed when I noticed the relief wash over her.
She smiled and cheered. Her light brown curls bounced in the evening wind and just for a moment, I forgot what it felt like to have resentment.
For a staggering five years I allowed my relationship and impending actions to take control of my life and alter my deception. It modified me and changed me, it shaped me to be the person I am today.
That's why we're here today.
I broke up with my ex boyfriend and that seemed to be the breaking point which initiated my friend and I to put our two weeks notices in and get a move on packing.
"Well we should get going its getting dark. Nicole casually said. Which suprised me because she's usually quite nervous when it comes to interaction and one on one conversations.
"Yeah" Is all I said. The atmosphere was tense and I could basically feel the negative energy suffocating me as we made our way through the forrest and back to my car.
Nicole was bickering to me about her boyfriend and his antics about babysitting her son, Parker.
My thoughts were abruptly interupted because I was tuning in on something. I wasn't quite sure of what it was yet. I wasn't even entirely aware that it was my ears that were picking up on the fact that we were not alone.
"Nicole quiet!" I hissed calmly. I had to get the point across that this was by no means a joking matter.
"Listen I think I hear something."
She piped down and we listen intently.
Moments pass and all that could be heard was the rustling of the leaves.
Suddenly they both heard the pants of a very large animal.
It was in close proximity of them. Almost as if it was closing in.
How would one react without causing inner turmoil?
"We held one each other's hands and turned our flashlights on.
I faced forwards while she faced backwards. We started singing to Bruno Mars. Tantalizingly we marched back to our cars.
We screamed like little girls when we got in the car.
"OH my gosh Emma I was sure we were going to be something's dinner!" Nicole squealed and shook her head in disbelief. "I know, I'm not sure what that was but it surely didn't just so happen to be in the vicinity."
We connected to Bluetooth and I started to back up when I noticed something behind the car. I froze in my tracks. Nicole looked at me like I had something wrong with me. That's when the grizzly bear was meer inches from her face as it walked beside the car.
Nicole was as white as a ghost. Her breath hitched and she gulped.
"Can we go now?"
Yeah I said. Let me get a picture first.
I made sure my flash was off and I took a few photos. This bear which I presumed was a female was pushing at least six hundred pounds. Though the bears in the north must have been getting ready for their winter hibernation.
How nice it must be to hibernate during cold winter months, I thought to myself.
As soon as the bear moved back along into the woods I slowly crept out if the driveway. Hoping that nature would be nothing like my menacing nightmares that depict blood thirsty bears and wolves.
As soon as we were on the road I asked Nicole to post the photos to the cities Facebook page. If amd when we got service.
It was rare to see a bear in Arizona. Let alone a Grizzly. Also the fact that they were in the south region of the state was more than bizarre and unheard of.
Bears would presumably be in the mountains of Arizona where the temperature drops in the winter months.
The captivating drum beats of the trap music relaxed me as we drove down the long barren road.
As usual my peace and quiet moment was interupted by the blaring engine, that of a motorcycle.
It roared louder as we got closer to it. Whomever was riding it maneuvered into third gear as we neared a town.
I pulled into the seven eleven and parked in a secluded spot. Hoping that someone would not decide to part next to me. Truly what an inconvenience that is.
Soon enough I lost interest in the motorcycle when the sound drowned out in the sound of chatter among townsfolk.
Nicole and I got out of the car and we hurried in to buy our favorite drinks and snacks. I bought my usual. Being the impulsive tea addict that I am, I bought four pure leaf raspberry teas.
So what if it cost me roughly ten dollars?
That's amount of currency bought my happiness.
Something that was hard to come by.
I smirked as I grabbed a hersheys bar and walked to check out.
Nicole was busy checking out the small plush stuffed animals that were overpriced and unappealing to say the least. I waited outside for her and breathed the chilly air in.
Though it wasn't a favorable temperature it was by far tolerable. Anything is better than below freezing with a certain guarantee of snowfall.
Suddenly a familiar sound rings throughout my ears as it nears closer and closer. Then a rather slim but built man rounds the corner on a black Harley Davidson classic.
I look in awe. Im in total shock.
The owner of the bike rides and parks and gets off the motorcycle. I proceed to make my way over to introduce myself. I'm enthusiastic to show my appreciation. The man pulls his helmet off and I swear at that very moment I went to hell and I was reborn. Instantly I stopped dead in my tracks. For I was taken back by the astonishingly handsome gentleman that stood before me.
His small frame was broad and he didn't lack muscular structure. He carried himself proudly and held a certain hierarchy. It was a clear message to anyone whom crossed his path.
His torso perfectly complimented his collar bone and exposed neck. His perfectly squared off chiseled chin must have been crafted by a Greek God and his nose could have as well sculpted by Venus
His cheekbones make this lad seem innocent and much younger than Emma originally thought.
Though the one thing that I could not stop staring at were those mencaing cold grey eyes. They pierced right through my defenses and uncovered my purest thoughts. Yet they held not an ounce of life or character. His hair was parted down the middle and cut above shoulder length. It looks soft and silky to the touch. He had a unique undercut that accentuated his facial features nicely.
I cleared my throat and walked towards this unknown man. Though he was not much taller than I, it didn't help me to be any less intimidated.
"Hello since you've surely made yourself known you could have atleast introduced yourself, brat." The man huffed in annoyance. Clearly irritated by whom or whatever.
Emma scoffed and looked in disbelief.
"My name is Levi" He spoke blatantly and furrowed his eyebrows whole he looked at the young blind haired girl standing there before him. He held his hand out half expecting her not to accept his handshake.
She obliged and put her small hands in his and gave him a gentle but reassuring handshake.
"You know it's not polite to be to harsh. All I wanted to do was compliment your bike. (And your looks) I whispered under my breath.
Levi looked at me as if I was an alien. I could not tell what he was thinking nor did I care.
Nicole finally walked outside. That's when she noticed I was talking to Mr.Hotty.
"OH heyyy Emma who's your friend he's an awfully dapper man".
I narrowed my eyes and spun around on my heels and looked at her.
"Nicole, this is Levi." I said in a monotone voice. Hoping that she would catch on.
They exchanged their not so enthusiastic introductions and Levi made his way into the gas station.
My hopes to talk about his Harley have surpassed me and I felt utter defeat.
That's when Levi turned around and glanced at me sulking.
"Hey brat since you seem to like my bike so much how about I take you for a ride when I come back out.
Oh yeah, dont put your filthy hands on my bike."
He faced me and spoke as if I had trouble hearing.
I smiled im excitement. "Yes I'd really enjoy that Levi, thanks!" I can't belive what I had just said.
I walked over to the bike and examined the fine detail of the craftsmanship.
Levi sneered and walked inside while Nicole oogled me with envy.
I cant believe I had agreed to his ridiculous offer. Or that im still standing here getting lost in the impeccable designs. Why is it that this arrogant man has such an impact on my ability to function as a normal human being? He probably sleeps around and gets off of hurting women. Who am I kidding hebdoesnt even look that old. Why am I interested in some random stranger with unquestionably good looks.
