Seraphina's eyes fluttered open, but she immediately closed them due to the warm, buttery sun shining over her. She didn't understand why it was so bright. Her bed in the dorm was pretty far from the window.
That's when she realized she was not in her dorm.
"What...?" Seraphina opened her eyes and came face to face with Draco. Last night's events whooshed through her brain and almost gave her a brain freeze.
I'm so stupid, Seraphina thought. Her gaze fixed on Draco's closed eyes, and her heart skipped a beat. Her insides turned all mushy at the sight of him. He looked completely harmless when he was asleep.
No barriers were up, and his fake walls were down.
Seraphina couldn't resist, and she lifted her hand. Her fingertips grazed across his sharp cheekbones, and she smiled as her index finger cascaded down his lofty nose. Her fingers rested against his pink lips, and she tilted her head a bit.
At that moment, Draco chose to wake up. She froze as he stared at her with his piercing icy blue eyes. She just knew he was going to make some arrogant comment about how she was into his good looks (which she admitted she was), and she scanned her mind for a good comeback to whatever he was about to say.
Then unexpectedly... Draco rested his fingertips against her lips. She blinked a couple times and stared at him in question.
"What game are we playing?" Draco whispered, and she realized he was just copying her.
"The don't-talk-because-you-didn't-brush-your-teeth game," Seraphina whispered.
Draco stared at her for a few confused seconds before chuckling. His laugh was addicting and low, and it made her break into a smile. He turned to look for the time and winced. His ribs stung like hell.
Seraphina frowned sympathetically. "In pain, huh?"
"No," he fibbed.
"Ah, so now we're playing the opposite game." She nodded in understanding, and he rolled his eyes, making her grin.
Suddenly, voices filled the air, and they both froze in panic.
Draco grabbed the cloak and yanked it over. Seraphina slipped out of bed and went in the corner just as Madame Pomfrey came in with a sweep of her long skirt. "Good, you're up, Mr. Malfoy. Now, take this potion."
Draco glanced towards the corner before sitting up and taking the potion. He took a sip and made a face.
"Drink all of it!" Madame Pomfrey shot him a warning glare.
Draco made a face and put the flask to his lips. Suddenly, he felt something warm and soft wrap around his hand, and he glanced to the right. He could feel Seraphina's presence, and his heart inflated with courage. He twisted his hand to intertwine his fingers through hers. Then he gulped the entire potion in one go. "See? That wasn't so bad now, was it?"
"Can I go now?"
"No, I'm afraid you'll have to stay the weekend. That means no Hogsmeade."
"But-"
"No buts. End of discussion. Now get some rest." Madame Pomfrey left.
"Annoying wench," Draco muttered. "OW!" He rubbed the back of his head and looked back. Seraphina pulled the cloak off of her and gave him a look. "That wasn't very nice."
"What are you? My conscience?!"
"Maybe."
"I'm just annoyed, alright? I feel fine. Why can't I get out of here?"
Seraphina jabbed his ribs, making him yowl. "That hurts!"
"See? You're not fine at all. Madame Pomfrey made the right choice."
"Did you really have to hurt me to prove your point?"
"Maybe."
Draco rolled his eyes. "Looks like you'll have to go to Hogsmeade without me."
At that, Seraphina frowned. It was strange, but she couldn't really imagine Hogsmeade without Draco. He was her Hogsmeade partner. What would she do without him? Maybe I shouldn't go. I can stay here with Draco.
"Hey," she heard him call her and looked at him. "Go get me a couple glacial snow flakes, will you?"
Seraphina grinned. "I knew it."
Draco rolled his eyes. The truth was, he didn't really want the stupid candy. He just didn't want her to feel guilty about staying with him. He had already made her stay all night. He wasn't going to hold her back anymore. Draco reached for his money. "Here."
"I got it. It's the least I can do for you, bro." Seraphina held out a fist.
Draco gave her a look. "Please don't call me that."
"Got it, sis." Seraphina pushed out her fist.
"Seraphina!" Draco reached to grab her, but she dodged and disappeared under the cloak. "Ha! Can't see me now!" He rolled his eyes and leaned back in contempt. "Draco."
At her voice, he looked up. She poked her head out, making her look like a ghost with only her head floating in the air.
"I'll be back," Seraphina promised. One corner of his lips quirked up, but he covered his smile and waved his hand. "Go."
Seraphina smiled back, ducked under the cloak, and left with a swish.
Draco leaned his head back and finally released the smile he had been struggling to hold. Hurry back soon...
