Revenge is a powerful thing. It can make a person do things they would previously consider immoral. Restraint, however, is even more powerful. It can keep a revengeful person in sight of the person they once were.

This is what Nyssa was thinking as she stood over the man's body. She did this. She killed him. Her rule has always been she doesn't kill unless it's necessary. Only when her life or the mission was in jeopardy would she resort to such measures. She had tried to knock him out, but he was stronger then she anticipated. She should have tried harder to outrun him, she knew she would be faster. But she needed to fight him. He made her angry because he was a reminder, the uniform he had been wearing, the unit he was a part of, had destroyed what she had loved the most.

Nyssa came back to her senses when an alarm in the distance went off. That was her cue. They had noticed what was missing. She took one final look at the motionless man, then ran towards the outskirts of the town. She heard yelling voices behind her and could tell they had seen the body. While she hoped this would distract them, she still pushed herself to run harder and put more distance in between them.

She was holding onto the journal she had come for like her life depended on it. A life had depended on it, a fact she was suddenly all too aware of. As her feet hit the dusty road, every part of her throbbed. The man had gotten off some good hits, and she was sure that she was more bruised than she was a few hours ago. However, Nyssa ignored the pain and pushed herself harder. She had never been this careless in a mission, but that didn't mean this would be her first time being caught.

The unforgiving wind hit her face as her legs flew behind her. This is why she trained hard. So no matter what the conditions, she could push through it. Her feet had fallen into their usual rhythm, even though it was more painful than usual. She gained confidence, as she knew she could outrun all the men that followed her.

A few minutes after she entered the woods, she saw Clips, her horse. Behind her, she could hear people moving. She felt her pulse increase as she started to panic at the thought of being caught. She began to work on untying the rope holding him to the tree. Her fingers fumbled on the knot.

"Slow down, deep breaths," she told herself under her breath. Finally, the rope came loose.

Clips must have felt her sense of emergency, because he took off along the path they came the second she was on his back. Nyssa let herself breathe. She was still holding onto the journal, but couldn't bring herself to look into it. She was exhausted and sore.

The sun was low on the horizon, making it harder to see where they were going. But Nyssa trusted Clips, because he had returned her safely from countless missions. He seemed to remember their exact path, even when she didn't. Nyssa estimated about an hour before she got back to Boone. She hardly relaxed as she watched the dark trees around her. Every once in a while, a bird would fly overhead, or a squirrel would run across their path, making them both jump.
