"soulmates are people who bring out the best in you"

Running a hand through my hair, I look around, frustrated

Running a hand through my hair, I look around, frustrated.  "Where is he?" I mutter to myself as I wait impatiently at the back of the classroom. Suddenly, the door opens and in walks a tall, green-eyed brunette, holding a few boxes of donuts.

"Finally", I sigh and walk to the front of the class. Hitting the boy's head, I grab a box and begin handing out donuts to everyone, and they accept them gratefully. Elijah rolls his eyes and hands out the rest of the donuts,  and then joins me in the front of the class.

"While we appreciate the kind gesture, what does it have to do with your project?" Mr Wilson, our English teacher, questions while taking a bite of his donut. Elijah projects our presentation onto the white board, and we begin. "Appearance is very important. Before we started, we handed out donuts. They could have been laced with poison, but everyone would have accepted them, because they look good right?" I begin with. Elijah then continues, "And that is how the Trojan War began. The infamous Trojan Horse was supposedly offered to the city of Troy by the Greeks. Inside the Horse were the Greek soldiers who ultimately destroyed the city of Troy. The people of Troy didn't see the Trojan Horse as a threat, because it looked harmless. Just like the donuts." We flow through our presentation without any issues.

"The story of the Trojan War teaches us that we should never trust appearances, or underestimate our enemies." We finally finish our presentation just as the bell for lunch rings. After collecting our stuff, we leave the class and head to the cafeteria.

Elijah puts his arm across my shoulders and I intertwine my hand with his that's dangling off of my right shoulder. "Why were you late?" I ask as we walk through the cafeteria doors. "Just ran into some trouble. But I got there didn't I?" he chuckles. I roll my eyes and sit at our table in the middle of the cafeteria.

Stella joins us with Kylie, Tana and Dawn. "I hate math!" Kylie exclaims as she sits down. "A bit dramatic don't you think?" Austin questions rhetorically as he sits down with Kai. Kylie just ignores him and starts talking to Tana.

I look at Elijah and put on my best puppy face, "Eliiii," I drawl out his name and he sighs. "What do you want Mia?" he smirks down at me. "Can I get your bag of chips?" I smile sweetly at him. We lock eyes and begin an intense eye contest. Eventually, he gives in and passes me his bag of chips and I smile and kiss his cheek.

Opening the bag of salty goodness, I notice Kai looking at me out of the corner of my eye and I turn to look at him. I quirk my eyebrow and he looks away. I shrug my shoulders and start talking to Stella. "Have you applied to any colleges yet?" she asks and I nod. "A few but there are more that I plan on applying to." I talk to Stella about college and more, all the while holding Eli's hand that's once again over my shoulder.

Suddenly, Kai gets up and leaves. Everyone looks around confused. "What's his deal?" Aaron asks as he sits down next to Kylie. We all shrug and go back to what we were doing. "Where have you been?" Kylie asks Aaron. "I was just completing my artwork is all." he replies.

About ten minutes later, the bell rings and we all disperse to our different classrooms. I walk to Economics with Kylie and I notice Kai walking out of the school. Just as I'm about to call him, Ms Laine asks for my help and I quickly assist her. I take my seat in the front next to Kylie, and class begins.

The class goes by quickly, as do the last two and suddenly I'm in the passenger seat of Eli's car as we drive to his house.

"YOU AND IIIIIIIIIIIII." I sing, more like scream, as I try to hit Zayn's high note. Eli just stares at me and it's then that I realize we're already at his house. I blush and rush to get out of the car, and I scowl as he laughs at me.  I ignore him and walk into his house and up to his room.

Shortly after, he joins me and hands me a bottle of water. I give him a grateful smile and take a large gulp of it. Taking out my homework, I notice Eli changing into a pair of shorts. He joins me and we do our homework in comfortable silence.

I've never been the smartest person, but I get excellent grades because I work for them. Eli however, is completely different. He's smart without trying. He still puts in the effort, but he is able to understand the work given to him. He truly is amazing.

Once we finish our homework, we walk downstairs and into the kitchen. I open the fridge and take out a container filled with mango. Taking it over to Eli who's seated at the island, I notice his mouth set in a straight line and his eyebrows furrowed. "What's wrong?" I ask as I sit next to him.

"I saw the look Kai gave you at lunch today." He says, breaking the silence. "What do you mean?" I ask in confusion as I look up at him.

"Oh come on Mia. He clearly has feelings for you. Everyone can see it but you." He says exasperated. I  give him a 'don't be stupid' look "He doesn't have feelings for me."

Eli scoffs, "Yeah sure."

"Even if he did, why does it bother you? It's not like we're dating." I say matter-of-factly. I notice his figure going rigid before he quickly relaxes and rolls his eyes. "He's a player and he doesn't deserve you. I just don't want you to get hurt." He stutters a bit in the beginning but I ignore it.

"Relax Eli. Our relationship is strictly platonic." I say and bite into a slice of mango. He studies me for a second before looking down and nodding, "I believe you."

I finish my mango and turn to face Eli.  "I should get home." He nods and grabs his keys. Once inside, he starts the car and backs out of his driveway.  We sing along to Love by Keyshia Cole. Well, I'm singing. I have no idea what Eli is doing. It's something between screaming and screeching. Either way he's singing completely off key but I don't let it bother me.

By the time we reach my house, which is only a few minutes away from Eli's, I'm out of breath, but I still have a huge smile on my face. "I love that song", we both say at the same time.

"JINX" I yell. He just looks at me with a deadpan and I smile even bigger. He mutters something about me being a child but I just get out and skip to my front door. I turn to wave and he waves back with a small smile. He waits for me to get inside and when I do, I hear his car drive away.

Once in my room, immediately collapse onto my bed and fall asleep.
