"Come on puppy..." I said sounding as friendly as I could, hand outstretched to the canine animal.
"Couldn't you like emotionally compel him?" Annabeth asked in an annoyed tone and I glared at her.
"Annabeth it's a dog, you don't emotionally compel dogs. That's just wrong. 'Sides it's not mind control."
"Might as well be. Look what it did to me and Grover." She said, very clearly still upset about that.
"It was just a tiny harmless prank Annabeth...Gotcha!" I said with a smile as I eventually managed to pick up the dog. "Now let's get you home little guy." The dog yapped in response. "I know, very exciting. Which direction?" The dog looked around feeling very confused till its head settled in a direction. "That way huh?"
"You can talk to animals too?" Grover asked and I shook my head.
"Yes and no. I ask them questions and they direct me by their emotional responses."
"Seems like a very useful ability," Percy commented and I shrugged.
"Depends where and when it's used. Emotions and bonds are both very very powerful things. love, hate, sadness, happiness, friends, family, in this case, pets for example, among many others. All these things are valued in different ways at different degrees. I hold dominion over them, yeah, but the downside to that is the results are extremely unpredictable. That holds true for titans, gods, giants, monsters, mortals, whatever. So it is not something I like influencing. Messing with something's feelings for real. Making them feel something that's not natural to them, It's just...it's wrong, At least in my opinion."
"When you put it like that, you actually sound like one of the more powerful titans...in a way. Even if you don't like using your abilities. I can't think of any other major divine being that holds as much sway over this stuff as you." Grover said and I shrugged again. "Well I guess Hades can make someone's heart stop from pure fear, but that's not really the same."
"I guess. I'm pretty emotional myself though in case you haven't noticed. It's rough, trying to manage your own emotions while doing your best not to influence those in others..." I said with a sigh. "Anyway, enough about me, I'd like to know about you three?"
"What do you wanna know?" Grover asked and I blinked.
"How'd you and Percy become friends? Let's start with that."
"Uhm, we met back at Yancy actually, what was it, your first day?"
"About yeah," Percy nodded.
"Yeah, granted I was sent there to scout out demigods and we suspected him. Still, though, we hit it off pretty quick. Been best buddies ever since."
"Pretty true," Percy agreed with a shrug.
"What was your life like before Yancy?" I asked wanting to continue learning and getting to know the heroes. However, I got a highly uncomfortable vibe in response from Percy. I guess I asked a bad question. "My bad, I didn't know or I wouldn't have asked that," I apologized and Percy sighed but shook his head.
"You know for an original member of powerful ancient beings, you sure lack the assumed overly confident personality," Annabeth said making me look at her.
"What you are shouldn't define who you are. Besides, other immortals more than makeup for me lacking that trait. But you were saying, Percy?"
"Yeah... my personal life is not something I like talking about."
"That includes talking about your dad too I take it?"
"Yeah. To be fair though, I never actually met the man so I couldn't tell you much anyway," Percy answered somewhat monotonously. However, I detected a bit of sadness and anger underlying his words.
