Screams. Shouts. Blood. Pain. Grief. Nightmares. Disbelief. Horror. Weapons everywhere. Death. Silence. Cries filled the air. This is not how it was before. It used to be peaceful. No one could find us. Not until our magic barrier fell and invaders found our hidden home. Families, friends, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters all dead. The only ones to survive the battle were mother, father, and me. My brother dead, as he tried to protect me. All I have left from him is his sword. Though now that I have had to start a new life in a less hidden part of Ionia. My new life might be better, or it will end the same as my last. I just need someone to understand. Someone I can trust with this heavy burden. Someone like my brother I had lost so long ago...
I stood on the edge of the riverbank and looked outward. The setting sun was beautiful to look at. Especially because I knew the night would soon rise and take out the light. Xen stood next to me his hand resting on my shoulder. He was taller than me by a fist, but I still managed to beat him in training today.
"You did well." He said. Not saying anything I glanced up at him. The wound in his side was slowly healing. The dragons magic was healing him slowly. Looking down at the sword at my side I unsheathed it. Dragons were etched into the blade. Sitting down I began cleaning it. Xen's blood still was on my blade. As much as I hated to harm my own brother in training, it was necessary. If our home were ever found, we would need to defend it and kill every single person that laid their eyes on it. Our home was hidden for a reason. We held the most powerful technique in the world. In the wrong hands the world could end itself.
Shaking the thought from my mind I dipped my sword in the river. The blood began to wash off. Pulling it back out of the water I took a cloth out of my pocket and began to dry the blade. Xen sat next to me and began cleaning his own blade from my blood.
When we were done, I covered my sword with a satisfying clang and pulled out my Kloviria. It was like a flute, but then quite different. It was played the same way a flute was, but that is where the similarities ended. It was a small, long thin stick that had been hollowed. It was smaller than a flute and it had many more holes. Pressing my lips to the Kloviria I blew a low note that caught Xen's attention. Instantly he looked at me worriedly.
"Is something wrong?" He asked. Looking up at him in surprise I shook my head.
"Why?"
"You never start with a low note. Whenever you do, it's when you're in a..." He trailed off as I looked away. He was right. I never started with a low note. Whenever I did, it usually showed I was hurting and lost in the cold depths of pain. I always thought he was not around whenever I would play my solemn songs, but I guess not. Setting down my Kloviria I looked up at the sky that was darkening.
"I feel like something wrong is going to happen. Something is going to happen. I don't know what, but something..." I stopped dead short as I heard a scream. Standing quickly, I unsheathed my sword as I raced back to the village. As I looked around, I saw fire spreading through the tall grass and a small battle had started. Sharing a quick look with Xen we both charged into the battle, our swords raised.
It started as a small tide, but soon grew into waves that crashed into our lands. Waves of enemy troops suddenly charged onto the battlefield killing many of us. Only the swordsmen had luck in fighting back the enemy. Though there were few of us. We cut through the enemy ranks as if they were made of grass, but the more we cut down the more took their place. At once one of our fellow students fell to the ground with a chest full of arrows. The sad thing about living in a secret village hidden by magic, was that we had no armor. We never had a reason to have armor. So, we easily feel to the sharp weapons. Though the good thing was that they had to catch us to kill us.
