August 12th, 2012 -flashback

"Do you ever wonder what your life will be like on this exact day in one year?" Luke asked me, as he concentrated on the arcade game in front of him. I watched with amused eyes as Luke furrowed his eyebrows, poked his tongue into the side of his cheek, and slammed a couple colorful buttons.

The question was random, but I gave it a little thought.

"Sometimes I do." Luke was only half listening; he was determined to get to the next round of the video game. I leaned against the games side and smirked. "What do you think your life will be like in one year?"

"There's so many things that could happen between now and then- I don't know." Then Luke cheered a little. He got a high score.

"Maybe you'll be a professional arcade gamer." I responded with a small laugh.

"Ha. Very funny."

"Have I told you you look really nice today?" Luke questioned, looking up from the game. He grabbed the tickets that were shooting out of the games slot and buried them deep within the pocket of his thin jacket.

"You don't look to shabby yourself." I mutter, and then bite my cheek.

"Oh, shut up." He says moving away from the game. "It's getting late. Come on, I'll walk you home." I nodded. I was so grateful to have Luke as a friend. He took my hand, and we stepped out of the old arcade.

Its been three years since Luke and his family had moved away. I've already graduated high school. Time went by faster than I thought it would.
