She often wondered why is it that she finds more comfort in the darkness. Is there a word for it? The sound of the wind blocking that of the busy traffic on the road.
The clock ticked 9. That's when its most breezy outside and the kids are asleep. She climbed the stairs that led to the terrace with a black, Boat headphones hung around her neck. The flies danced around the orange street lights. She wore her headphones blocking out all the noise of the traffic and just felt the wind blow across her face. The slow-motion of the clouds matched the music she was listening to and that feeling could not be compared to anything else.
While she was watching the busy buses and vehicles moving on the road, the power transmitter in the other street burst emitting fire sparks. The whole neighborhood's power was cut off and it was completely dark. Still, she did not lift her headphones but just watched the vehicles stop in the middle of the road, bus drivers extending their heads out of the window to see what caused all the chaos.
That is terrifying to be all alone in the dark you might think. But not for her. This was a dream come true. She stared up at the clouds seeing how unbothered they were about all that was going on in the world and that gave her some sort of calmness.
Everyone were going inside for no one likes the darkness because it was the time which was the scariest. Kids were told haunted stories based on the darkness of the nights. We all grew up accustomed to what our elders taught us. But some, questioned them, such as herself. What if the darkness is just misunderstood? Nobody was out anymore. She played her favorite playlist that she made, just to listen on the terrace. A warm smile spread across her face thinking how everything was running so quickly. The things that everyone is concerned about now wont even matter in 10 years. She was relaxed of that thought. Perhaps we should take it slow, our lives i mean. One day you grow up and look back at your childhood and all you remember is getting hurt or stressing with your life. Then you regret not taking it easy and wished you had just paused for a while.
She started dancing and feeling the air around her taking complete advantage of the power cut. It didn't matter whether she knew how to dance or not. What really matters is you stay in the present and forget whatever that is going on in your life.
Just pause for a while.
The time got over and she switched off her headphones and walked back inside before it started raining.
Once again. The darkness had cured her headache and lifted her mood.
