Haruki was the one who woke me up the next morning. Auntie was really grateful to them because, if not for them, I might still be sulking in bed.
They quickly got me up and ready for a bath since we were heading to the police station to request the CCTV footage. Even though we're minors, we have a police contact because Aki's godfather works there.
When I finished my bath, I was surprised to find a plate of food on my study table again. I couldn't help but laugh and look at them, shaking my head with a smile.
"We should just eat in the dining room—"
"We're done with that," Natsumi cut me off, arms crossed.
"Hurry up and eat so we can get going!" Aki urged excitedly. I started to worry if I could handle seeing the footage. What if I saw how my dad was killed and why Mom is still 50-50 at the hospital?
Our chat was interrupted when Auntie came in with a smile, placing water on the study table.
"You seem to have plans?" she commented. I smiled back, ready to answer, but Haruki stopped me.
"We're just going to grab a bite at a nearby coffee shop, you know, to freshen up," Haruki shrugged. Auntie looked at her and nodded.
"Someone will... be bringing your father here later, in... the casket," Auntie struggled to finish, and I could see she was tearing up too.
"Could you make my father's funeral private, so only family can attend?" I asked Auntie. She frowned, puzzled by my sudden request. "For safety reasons," I added when she didn't respond. She hesitated but eventually nodded before leaving, glancing at the three of them.
"She looks suspicious," Natsumi whispered.
"You think so? I do too," Haruki added. "Like, how did she know that something happened to your parents and suddenly showed up like someone called her in"
"It seems like she's hiding something," Aki whispered back. The two of them nodded while I frowned.
"Are you close to that aunt of yours?" Haruki suddenly asked. I thought about it. We were close, but I realized she wasn't close to Dad. She only visited when Dad wasn't around. But why is she the one taking care of us now?
