Chapter 6

1921

Edward, Carlisle, and Dorothea are now exposed to become a miniature family. Dorothea had to enter school alongside Edward. They stood with each other like cement refusing to talk nor sit near the humans. They would make Carlisle proud and never harm the family name that they hold. Earning the Cullen name a great reputation among the teacher and in town.

Dorothea still continues to walk around the hospital with Carlisle but no longer as a nurse but more as, 'bringing your daughter to work,' Sitting in the waiting room of the hospital while reading a magazine. The smell of blood caught Dorothea's attention, not the normal blood but something she had smelled many years again.

Desiring to find out who it was, her feet brought her closer to the figure pumping that scent. As Dorothea taught, the girl was Esme, Carlisle's mate which made him suffer years of regret not changing her into a vampire.

Normally, Dorothea would feel mad at the person that causes her family's sorrow but looking at the now young adult, Esme made Dorothea condole her as she did with Edward's mother. Those eyes of her held sorrow and wounded in them that intrigues Dorothea to know of her past.

Looking approximately to make sure no one was watching she casually open the door closing it behind her, gracefully walking near the woman while freeing her hands from the glove to caress Esme's rough pale skin.

Dorothea saw that at the age of 22, in an attempt to please her parents, Esme married Charles Evenson, but she soon realized that Charles was an abusive man. Dorothea observed how her parents pressure her to keep quiet about the man's abusive side but thankfully the man was drafted during World War I, giving the young Esme some freedom from her husband.

She can see and feel the emotion of happiness in Esme without her husband but he returned in 1919. Not long after the girl found out she was pregnant and was very happy but not wanting the child to grow up with such a father she ran away to her cousin's house in Wisconsin but luck wasn't with her as Carles found out her whereabouts so she fled once more but this time to Ashland and posed as a war widow.

Man, Dorothea must say she is a strong woman as she also works as a school teacher her childhood dream. Dorothea can feel the brightest happiness when the child was born in 1921 but with a lung fever that causes the baby's death.

Suddenly the mood went dull and depress as Dorothea witnessed Esme's attempt at suicide by jumping off the cliff. So that's why she's here in a hospital in such a terrible state. Removing her hands from the weak woman, Dorothea and Esme made slight eye contact before she left that room searching for a certain vampire doctor.

When Dorothea bump into Carlisle, she just told him Esme's room number and advised him he should visit the patient in that room. Left the hospital to head home, hoping that this time fate is nicer to the pair.

When arriving home, Dorothea didn't expect to see Edward in such a condition. His once golden eyes had turned to those ruby red, similar to Aro had. "Edward, who did you bite?" / "It doesn't matter who I bit. The taste, Thea. It's the taste. God, I would kill for another!" Dorothea took a step back scarred by the tall male in front of her. "Carlisle turns you as your mother's wish and I know she would be disappointed in witnessing you turn into a monster instead."

Dorothea can apprehend Edward's deep growl making her step back slowly moving her hands behind her back so she could remove the gloves. Once Edward pounces on the frail girl, Dorothea quickly held onto his neck with her bare hands taking control of his body. "Get off me!" Edward's eyes hand turn white same as Dorothea's as he took a step back away from the girl as the command.

"If you want to continue this path of drinking human blood then I suggest you leave, Edward Anthony Masen!" Dorothea snaps her fingers to lose their connection. They shared a fiery eye connection as Edward debates his next move, before Dorothea could say anything more, he quickly packs his bag and left Cullen's house.

Hours had passed since Edward left. Once the main door opened again, Dorothea had hoped for it to be Edward but alternately there stood Carlisle carrying Esme in his arms. She was happy seeing he resolved to change his mate as she attended him to lay Esme on her bed carefully like she was made with glass.

When they both left the room, Carlisle was keen to question Dorothea about Edward since his scent is disappearing by the second in the house. Dorothea told him about how Edward reacted and how she saw him get mad when a bunch of boys approaches him drunk that he killed one of them as the rest fled.

Carlisle let out a disgruntled sigh but understand Edward's situation. They both had a swift talk about their next move and decided that they should move town further away from the current one to avoid the drama before Esme woke up from her turn.

On that night, Carlisle had to carry the unconscious Esme while Dorothea held onto the important stuff as they travel by foot to a new town they have never been to.

After 3 days of waiting for Esme she finally awakened from her transformation, Carlisle explained what happened and that he turned her into a vampire to save her life. Much to his surprise, Esme was not upset with his act, and she easily accepted her new life unlike Edward when he first transforms.

Esme didn't have any special powers much like Carlisle but possessed an unparalleled capacity for a passionate love for those around her, which allowed Dorothea to easily let her into her life and open up.

Dorothea and Esme had grown a tremendous relationship of mother and daughter since she lost her only child and Dorothea being turned at such a young age, Esme took her in as a daughter immediately.

Dorothea wasn't mad that she saw her as a child but very joyful as she had never experienced such motherly love from a woman. It brought Dorothea to tears sometimes when Esme would ask for Dorothea's permission before doing anything and always make sure she feels comfortable with any plan.

So after 2 years together, Dorothea gladly accepted Carlisle's decision on marrying the young woman. While planning the wedding with Esme in the kitchen, Dorothea can't help but feel dull at the thought of Edward, her pose older brother not being able to witness the great day. Even with him gone, Dorothea still told people that she has an older brother named Edward Cullen.

Carlisle at first hesitates to follow Dorothea's path but not long afterward if asked he would say he has 2 children. When midnight struck, Dorothea and Esme were expecting Carlisle to walk through the door from work but what Dorothea didn't expect was another familiar face with him.

She knew the day will come probably after the amazing day of healing and forgiving, but just wasn't expecting it to be today.
