It's all my fault. She is going to die because of me. A text interrupted my thoughts. It was from Hiro.
"Hey, I hope you're doing alright. Ian told me what happened. I need to talk to you. Call me soon."
"David, I need to go outside and talk to Hiro for a second," I informed him. "Alright, I'll come with you," he answered. "No, I need to speak to him alone." It sounded really important. Once I was alone outside, I pulled out my phone and called Hiro's number.
"Hello? Mari? Oh thank god, are you okay? Is David sticking around?"
"Trust me, he's sticking around alright. He won't leave me alone." Should I tell him? "What is it you wanted to tell me?"
"When you left for Peru, there was this party, a bit further down the boardwalk. I met this girl there, we're dating now. Her names Asia. Ironically she's American."
"That's great Hiro, but is that all you wanted to tell me? I'm kinda busy."
"Oh sorry. Yeah there's just like, one thing I really needed to tell you. She's pregnant." It went silent. All I heard was him breathing on the other side.
"Are you sure? Like are you positive?" I suddenly didn't feel as bad for myself.
"Yeah, it's been almost a whole month since we... well you know. And she's pretty sure." He sounded relieved. "I had to tell someone, I couldn't tell Mom."
I ran this through my head a couple times. It was a difficult thing to grasp. "I have something I need to tell you t-"
"Hold on," he interrupted. "The door at the front of our apartment just opened. I heard the security system say "front door open."
I was irritated with him interrupting me. "I'm sure it's just mom, so anyway-"
"No, mom's alseep." Now I was listening. A second later, a scream came through the phone. It wasn't Hiro's. "MOM!" Hiro yelled. He dropped the phone.
"HIRO!!!" I screamed back into the phone. I was about to say something else before a hand closed over my mouth. I was being hauled to a vehicle, one that looked oddly familiar. I was brutally shoved inside it. My eyes flicked to the hospital door where I saw David come out. Our eyes met for a second. He started moving. The man started the car and drove off, locking the doors. He stopped along the road a minute later so he could restrain me from attacking him. My kidnapper faced me. His eyes sent me into shock, it's the same face that has been haunting my nightmares for years. It was my father.
