Chapter 16: even a fallen angel can still fly

I heard the front door close and shot up from my bed where I was enveloped in Ryuk's long arms. "Ryuk, get outta here and then pretend you got distracted by something when you were out with Light. In short, you were never here." I plotted, watching him nod and wink as he floated out the window. He had just gone out of sight when Light opened the door with a vicious smile. "I got his name."

One Week Timeskip 

Ray Penbar was dead. They were all dead. Every single FBI agent that was tailing us and I didn't even need to lift a finger. Light was doing all the hard work and I was just along for the ride until it was my moment to shine. I walked into Light's room and knocked on the wall, making my presence known. "Hey Light. How's it going?" I asked, watching him scribble away in his little black book. He smiled at me, gesturing his head towards the bed where Ryuk was sitting, inviting me to sit down. "I got the FBI out of my hair, but L is still going to be an issue." He said, eyes calculating and cold. I chuckled and leaned on Ryuk, tossing my legs on the bed to stretch out. "Light you don't need to worry about L at all. I have him wrapped around my finger, and I'll get you on the case soon enough." He smiled at me and shut the death note, placing it back in it's hiding place. He looked at me and Ryuk with distaste, before brushing it off and looking at me again. "You look like you came here to tell me something, what was it?" I nodded and sat up a little. "L has called me in. Apparently the police think he sent the FBI to investigate and now no one trusts him." Light smiled and let out a small chuckle. "Well that's good for us, isn't it?" I nodded and stood up to stretch, listening to the melodic crack of my spine. "I think he might be meeting with dad and whatever officers are loyal to him, but that's just a theory. I gotta get ready but I'll keep you updated." Light nodded and gave me a hug. "Thank you, you're the only one who understands." My lips curled into a twisted smile and I patted him on the back before leaving his room to get ready. 

I put on my normal makeup and styled my hair as usual, and threw on a quick outfit before grabbing all my things and heading over to the hotel where L was currently staying.

I was giddy with excitement in the elevator. What was his plan? Was he onto Light? What was going to happen with the police? I practically skipped to the room and threw open the door, my maniac gaze meeting L's cold one. "Ah, y/n. Good to see you." He smiled, eyes warming a little bit. I plopped my things on a nearby chair and kissed L on the cheek, my lips colliding with his sheet white face. "Someone's in a good mood, huh?" I nodded and sat next to him, looking over the papers he had out. "I sure am!" He laughed and put down the files he was holding before looking at me. "Some new things have come up. We're not going to be working with the police anymore, however a team of five who still want to work on the Kira case will be coming over soon. One of them is your father. I'm going to have them call me Ryuzaki and use aliases, and I think it would be best for you to use one as well even though you know most of these people. Have anything in mind?" I did some thinking, and came up with one that fit me perfectly. "Halo." 

Timeskip to after meeting 

I walked home and felt a presence in the dark. I whipped around and  positioned myself with my fists up, ready to fight. "Who is it?" I cried, itching to run even though I stayed put. "relax, honeycrisp it's just me." Ryuk chuckled, walking from a dark corner to greet me. I smacked him on the chest and pouted. "Don't scare me like that. And it's Halo to you." I smirked. He cocked a brow, encouraging me to go on. "It's my new alias. L had me pick one out." I smiled, tossing my hair to brag. He bent down a little, meeting me at eye level. "Well, angels have halos, and all angels deserve to fly." Before I could process what he just said, he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close, flapping his powerful wings to lift us off the ground. I screamed, clutching his chest as he laughed. "Don't worry, I'll never let you fall." I moved my head that was buried in his arms and looked around. The city was lit up, cars zooming along the freeway, buildings and houses still alive even at night. It was breathtaking. 

I slowly extended my arms and trusted Ryuk to hold me, feeling the wind flow through my fingers. I laughed, my small sweater flapping in the wind like white wings. We probably looked like a demon and an angel, and unlikely pair, but a powerful one. Something pure and gently meets something devilish and dark, her innocence being tainted and becoming something even better. I looked up at Ryuk and was met with his yellow eyes staring at me lovingly. I smiled at him and extended my neck to give him a quick kiss on the lips before looking out at the scene below me once again. We soared for what felt like forever before Ryuk finally landed on our roof. We sat there for a few minutes, my s/c cheeks flushed from the cold wind. "Was that fun, angel?" Ryuk asked, pulling me onto his lap. I nodded, at a loss for words at what I had just experienced. We sat in silence and looked out at the skyline for a while before I heard my mom calling us all down for dinner. I stood up and Ryuk did the same, holding onto me to make sure I didn't fall. "Don't worry, I have a plan." I assured him, winking at my demon. "mind opening my window for me?" I asked. he smirked and cocked his brow but obliged, clearly interested in what I was about to do. I laid on my stomach, feet facing the edge of the roof and pushed, sliding down at rapid speed. I heard Ryuk call out, but he seemed to be relaxed by my laughter. I felt my legs to over the gutter and got ready to grab onto it, finger curling around the metal. I then swung straight into my room, crashing onto my bed that was next to the wall. Ryuk flew in after me, picking me up from the bed so make sure I was ok. I laughed in his arms, face red and eyes wild. He smiled back at me and pressed a quick kiss on my lips before putting me down and straightening my clothes and hair for me. "Now that you've had your excitement for the day, calm down and get some dinner." I smiled at him, giving him one last kiss on the cheek. It was rare for him to be so gentle and caring, and I felt so happy that he chose me. I was the luckiest girl in the world. I was going to rule it all with a god as my lover, and no one would stop me.
