This is one of the worst things that I have ever written, so enjoy.
Christine Palmer:
An amazing, intelligent, talented, gorgeous woman.
Stephen Strange:
An amazing, intelligent, talented, gorgeous man.
She was a no-nonsense, bad-ass, emotional, and humble person.
He was an over-dramatic, egotistical, stone-faced, impulsive bastard.
And yet, they worked so well together.
They were so different. On paper, they shouldn't be compatible. But, against all odds, they were.
And Wanda hated it.
"They were the ultimate power couple."
That's what people said.
Wanda didn't see it, though. She saw carbon copies of Pepper and Tony, the only difference being that instead of a mechanic and C.E.O., they were a wizard and doctor.
That didn't mean she was disrespectful. She talked to each of them, let them rant about their lives, helped Stephen pick out the right ring, helped Christine pick out the right dress....
Wanda congratulated them. She was happy for them. Happy that they could look past their different beliefs. Happy that they could compromise when it came to their different professions. Happy that the end of their former relationship was also the start of a new, healthier one.
She was happy.
Imagine her surprise when Christine asked her to be her maid of honor.
"Don't you know someone more fitting for that role? Like a sister, or a co-worker?"
Those were her exact words.
Of course, her answer didn't benefit Wanda. Apparently, Christine was an only child and most of her co-workers were male.
So, against her better judgement, she said yes.
And everything was fine. The bachelorette party was small and simple. The girls went to Olive Garden. The food wasn't too bad and the wine was great. But there was a sinking feeling in her stomach the entire time, which ultimately ruined the night.
Skip ahead to the wedding. Wanda's dress scarlet, so she was happy about that.
That was the only thing she was happy about that day.
Too soon for Wanda's liking, "Here Comes The Bride" started playing. And while everyone else's eyes were on the bride, Wanda's were on the groom.
His mouth was open slightly and his eyes sparkled. His gaze never left Christine, nor should it.
A few minutes passed, but it felt like forever.
"If anyone wishes to oppose this marriage, may they speak now or forever hold your peace."
Wanda but her tongue. It took everything in her not to say something in that moment.
She tried to be happy.
Now, she sits alone at a table with an almost empty glass of champagne in front of her. Her head was resting on her hand as she watched Stephen and Christine dance together.
Wanda hasn't felt anything but sorrow and guilt after Thanos until Stephen came along.
He made her laugh.
He made her smile.
He made her feel happy.
Wanda studied Stephen to see if there were any signs of regret or dread on him. But, to no surprise, there was none.
He was.....happy.
And she was not.
