Jesse POV
Almost 6 hours later
I must be very close...I can feel the power of whatever this thing is. It's nowhere even remotely near the ballpark of what the big 3 have. Which honestly makes me pretty damn happy. But even still, the energy thing was giving off was nothing to scoff at.
"It should be right around...here...Wow!" I muttered as I entered the factory and immediately felt a powerful wave of divine energy emitting from the center of the factory. Walking further into towards the center the energy only got stronger and stronger. A bit deeper I arrived in front of a huge metallic chest on a table. I slowly slid open the lid and inside the chest, I saw what looked like a beautifully crafted dagger lined with a bunch of shimmering symbols on it. The blade itself was about the length of my forearm and was made of celestial bronze. The divine material making the blade look like it was made of pure bright blue light. The hilt itself was made from some black-looking stone, smooth and yet very firm. Once I picked up the blade I noticed a note laying underneath it.
'The limit of this blade's power is up to you, It will only ever be strong as you allow it to be. Treat it with care and respect and it will serve you well.' After I finished reading it the note burst into flames, not even leaving ashes or smoke. I continued to admire the blade for a bit longer. Enthralled by its craftsmanship, it truly was something beautiful...
Suddenly I felt my body tense up when I felt a flurry of emotions from the demigods. Andrew was apparently very very angry and fairly scared, Percy and Grover startled, and finally, Annabeth extremely annoyed. I closed my eyes and saw them fighting some kind of mechanical thing at what seemed to be an abandoned water park?
'Hold out a little longer guys. I'm on my way,' I telepathically told them, feeling them all relax slightly in response. "Come on, where are you..." I muttered closing my eyes once more. My mind flashing through all the cities and states in the US. The pre-established bond I made with them honing in on their location within seconds. "Gotcha...WHOA!" I fell into a roll on my side as the thing slammed down in front of me.
I caught the leg of the thing as I brought the other one down and threw upwards knocking the thing up off the ground and onto its back. Standing up I drew the dagger and felt a sudden urge to throw it at whatever this is. Throwing the blade by twisting my wrist to the side it flew and chopped the thing's head off, and then appeared back in my hand before I even heard it hit the ground.
"I like whatever that thing is," Grover said with a heavy breath as he pointed at my dagger.
"Yeah, I'm starting to as well," I nodded glancing down at it.
"C'mon we should get back to the diner, I have a feeling Ares is waiting for us," Annabeth said grabbing a pink scarf from Percy's hands as she walked by.
"Ares?" I asked following her with the others. "Why would he be talking to any of you?"
"He said he'd give us information on my mom and a ride west if we got his shield. But this was clearly a setup," Percy answered in an annoyed bordering on angry tone.
"Oh...Well after this do you think he was telling the truth?' I asked.
"No," Andrew replied coldly. Feeling his anger I walked up beside him and attempted to put my hand in his but he withdrew it abruptly. Knew it...he's mad at me. I sighed lowering my hand, now feeling really really guilty. I saw the others stumble a little and look down in shame. Quickly realizing my mistake I withdrew my emotions back into myself. Their initial emotions returning to them. Still, none of them said anything. We just kept walking in silence. After a while, I just couldn't take it anymore.
"Andrew I..."
"We'll talk later," He muttered coldly, but so only I could hear it. He then walked past me and up to the others.
I nodded sniffling and wiping my eyes with my shirt sleeve. I kinda do deserve this I guess...I did leave him without saying a word to him. I even told Annabeth to talk to him and look out for him for me. Not saying the words myself, heck I'd be upset too. If I know Andrew as well as I think I do, his anger stems from worry. Maybe a little frustration from not being able to go with me, but mostly worry. Still...This anger seems pretty excessive. Even in the past, when I've seen Andrew this mad it was over pretty major stuff. it was also an explosive kind of anger, not this semi-silent treatment. That said though, I'm pretty sure I'd break down if he shouted at me like that. This whole thing seems a bit much.
"Wait, Annabeth who're we meeting at this diner?"
"Ares," She responded.
"He's the war god right?"
"Yeah," She nodded. "Why?'
"I think he did something to Andrew," I said quietly after walking up to Annabeth and she gave a small nod.
"I thought so too. Assuming he did though, we don't have any way to check what it is. Or how to stop it for that matter."
I frowned at her words and sighed glancing back at Andrew who glared back at me.
"I do," I muttered. "I just don't want to. I'd rather Ares stop whatever this is than me hijacking Andrew's mind and soul." Annabeth looked at me in surprise and I shook my head. "It's not as bad as it sounds."
"Really? Because it sounds pretty bad...I thought you didn't have mind control?" Annabeth whispered in an aggressive tone.
"I don't. Your mind and soul are what create your emotions. I can't make anyone do anything against their will directly. By hijack, in this case, I just meant see into. That's it."
"Your domain is extremely invasive Jesse!" Annabeth whispered even louder and I nodded rapidly.
"Why do you think I don't like using it?!" I whispered back in the same tone.
"I don't think you have a choice in this case. I highly doubt Ares will remove it just because you asked."
"I hate you for being right Annabeth," I said falling back a little. I'd prefer not to do this, but she's right, I don't really have a choice. I glanced back at Andrew blinking at him. Upon opening my eyes I saw a strong crimson aura erupting around him. I struggled for a second or two before completely purging it from him. He blinked at me then ran up and hugged me, lifting me off the ground.
"Feel better?" I asked as he put me down and he nodded.
"Much. I felt so so angry. I tried my hardest but I couldn't shake it. So thank you. I guess that makes you my guardian angel huh?"
"I don't know about that. But, you're welcome. Now we going back to the diner?" I asked and they nodded.
"Yeah. The sooner we get back the sooner I hope, our dealings with Ares end."
"Sounds like a plan," I nodded as we walked around the block, the diner now in view. This'll be fun...
