chapter 1

Language arts felt so long. The teacher, Ms. Veya, was so rude. The entire class looked miserable. It looked like every student just had the burning urge to leave. Alex sat scribbling random things in his notebook. There was a drawing of a little rubber duck, a few constellations messily written on, and an oddly accurate human heart.

Finally, the bell rang, and the students flooded out. "Gee, what an eventful class." Nick huffed while exiting class. Alex laughed, "Y-yeah." He always had anxiety about people looking at him, and he could almost feel the weight from the teacher's eyes on him.

He and Nick walked in different directions and waved to each other.

⭑⭑⭑(this represents a time skip btw ^^)

Karl and Alex sat in the lunchroom, both eating fruit cups. The school was giving them to students who forgot their lunch. And coincidentally, both of them had forgotten theirs. The two of them sat across from each other, with a few extra people around.

"So- you enjoying your fruit cup-?" Alex asked, in more of a joking way.

"Yeah- it's kinda frozen though."

"Why would it be frozen?"

"Because they put it in the freezer to keep it cold."

"Why not just put it in the fridge???"

"I..... don't know."

Karl and Alex just stared at each other before eating the fruit cups again.

"Hey," Karl asked, "What class do you have next?"

Alex pulled his schedule out of his folder, and looked at it before saying, "Mrs. Lee, Science room 301."

"Whoa, me too!"

"Oh, that's cool."

They talked a bit more when the bell rang for 6th period, and they both walked to the class. Karl let Alex into the science room then let himself in. The class was on the second floor, outlooking the parking lot. The windows were open, letting in the warm air.

Alex noticed that the teacher was the woman at the door greeting students. She waved at him and Karl as they came inside. They both seemed to see Nick and took desk spots on either side of him. The classroom was set up in a 5x5 square of desks, with a screen at the front, and the teacher's desk.

Once the majority of the seats were full and the bell rang again, Mrs. Lee formally introduced herself.

"Hey everyone! I'm Mrs. Lee, your science teacher for this year. I can't wait to meet you all. I've got a slideshow set up so you guys can get to know me more." She did something on her computer and the screen turned into a show of her computer screen.

The slideshow had a picture of her smiling as the 'cover.' She clicked to the next slide.

"This is my family! My wife, our dog, and our son!" She said describing the image on the slides. Most of the class didn't even bother to think it was weird. But, a girl with bleached blonde hair in two pigtails said, very rudely,

"Wait, wife? You're a girl!"

There was silence among the classroom before Mrs. Lee replied with;

"Yes. I do have a wife. There's nothing wrong with that.."

"But there are two genders for a reason!" The bottle blonde was getting angrier by the second.

The teacher huffed. "You're causing a scene Victoria. I don't want to send someone to the principal on the first day." Mrs. Lee looked both annoyed and amused. She continued with her slides and introduced herself.

"So, I know this is a bit much, but we're gonna have a project! You'll be assigned in groups of three, and will be working on almost anything you want- having to do with science. Pretend it's a science fair, well that's basically what it is. You've got two weeks to complete it. You guys can go ahead and raise your hand if you want anyone in specific."

Karl, the one girl 'Victoria' and a few other's hands shot up.

"Who would you like to be paired with Karl?" Mrs. Lee asked him.

"U-uh, Nick and A-Alex please-" He replied, stuttering occasionally.

Mrs. Lee looked between Nick and Alex who both approved of the decision. "Okay, that'll work-"

"HEY!" A shriek went across the class. "I WANTED TO BE WITH KARLLLLL!" It was Victoria again. Karl just moved in his seat to look at her. He had an expression on his face that was just 'not again.'

"Victoria stop screaming. Please. If you do this again you're getting sent to the office."

She sighed dramatically and sat back in her chair when Mrs. Lee continued calling names. Once everyone was in a group the bell rang perfectly on time. Everyone got up, most of them waving 'goodbye' to their teacher.

It was the end of the school day, and the halls were crowded. Karl was getting his locker more organized and getting ready to go home. He realized that they should start thinking of ideas for the project.

"Hey guys, do you guys want my number so we can make a group chat for our project?" Karl said looking at the ravens on his right.

"Hey, yeah. That's a good idea." Nick replied, pulling his phone out. Alex agreed and they put each other into their phones. Then, the bell rang, and the school day was over.

ALSO, THE CHAPTER WAS SUPPOSED TO END AT VICTORIA BEING HOMOPHOBIC AND DUMB BUT I DECIDED TO CUT INTO THE NEXT ONE HAHA-
