This plan that we have now... to just remember books and information and form back later... seems more like a dream. Something that you want to do, not sure exactly how, not sure exactly when... not sure about a lot. Not sure the outcome! We can't sit and wait for society to break on its own and then we come in and what? Start putting together a bunch of the burned books!? Will that be enough for the trembling society that is left from bombs and burns? We need more than quotes and parts of books.
"Granger... you were wrong earlier." Great choice of words... "We are worth something. It's just like you said, society will collapse in on itself! And when it does, whenever that is, we are going to do what? Start putting together books that have been burned, possibly not remembering certain chapters and certain main points to the books?"
Granger's eyebrows fell to a short glare. "You are missing a lot of it but, put bluntly, yes Montag."
"Granger... with all do respect, to you all, we need more of a plan. We need to be more specific. We need a detailed plan. We need to take things more seriously!" Montag's voice unintentionally arose to a yell.
"Are you saying that we had not thought all this through? That we don't have a good plan?"
"I would beg to differ..." Montag spoke in a shaky, yet more controlled, voice, "I am saying that society rests in our hands. I am saying that we are more than just books. We are more than some pieces of information to be put to use 'eventually'. We are survivors of a society that took a dark turn some time ago, we have seen what happens when people don't think for themselves! Don't you think that people deserve to hear what we have been through?"
"Montag, get to the point, please."
"The point is, we need to take more action than waiting for the fall of society and then just show up with information! Think about it! If we can correct society at its lowest, we might have a chance of changing things! Not just for us, but for everyone! For the good of humanity!" tears started to drip down Montag's chin and his fists trembled.
Granger's face was now unreadable, he seemed emotionless yet he was experiencing every emotion at once. He felt everything and displayed nothing. Granger and Montag sat in silence for a moment.
