At the house, Lisa tells Marva Lynn of an upcoming 50 US States pageant at St. Boniface Elementary School. Marva suggests she goes as Nevada in honor of the legalized gambling in both the state and St. Boniface. Lisa objects and Marva Lynn suggests Florida since she loves orange juice and old people like her.
The casino opens, Kevin wins a jackpot, but is kicked out, as minors are not allowed in American casinos. Marva Lynn takes Laurie to the casino, but it said, no one under 21 to get in, but takes Laurie back home. Minutes later, she is addicted to gambling
Due to her addiction, Marva Lynn spends every waking moment at the casino and neglects the family in the process.
As an addict, Marva Lynn quickly goes back on her promise and returns to the casino. She does not help Lisa make a Florida costume for her geography pageant. Lisa is heartbroken, thinking she looks like a monster, but Nolan swears he will save Marva Lynn from the real monster even if he must drag her out of the casino and force her to return home.
Nolan spies Marva Lynn who is gambling and winning more money. With that, he stops her by pulling Marva away from the slot machine and throwing it to the floor. Nolan proceeds to tell her how angry he is at her for breaking her promise to Lisa and making her cry. Marva Lynn realizes how much her neglect is effecting her family and apologizes. Nolan persuades Marva Lynn to admit that she has a gambling problem, and she considers therapy, but Nolan objects, claiming that it's too expensive. Nolan told Marva Lynn not to go to the casino again.
At St. Boniface Elementary, Lisa, along with Lonnie, who dressed up as Idaho, both receive special awards for being "children who obviously had no help from their parents."
Meanwhile, Nolan and his twelve cousins Paul, Grady, Ed, Fran, Bill, Mick, Roy, Fred, Karl, Milt, Gary and Dave were watching some of the 40s movies, and they are doing great.
